The candidate must design and conduct research and data analysis related to human rights using a variety of research methodologies and techniques.
The candidate must provide input on the development of new research initiatives, including identifying research methods and assessing strengths, limitations, risks, and opportunities.
The candidate must engage with diverse community partners to design and implement research projects, including advisory circles and project participants as required.
The candidate must apply a rights-based, intersectional, ethical, and decolonizing lens throughout research design and data analysis.
The candidate must develop research instruments such as survey questionnaires and interview guides and conduct primary research including interviews and focus groups using ethical and trauma-informed practices.
The candidate must write literature reviews, statistical reviews, jurisdictional scans, research memos, reports, research papers, briefing materials, notes, and other materials to communicate primary and secondary research findings to internal and public audiences.




The candidate must identify and collect qualitative and quantitative data from established sources, provide technical data support, and review and verify the accuracy of information while identifying relationships, differences, and anomalies.
The candidate must review and critically analyze research studies conducted by ministries, research institutes, and jurisdictions to support evaluation and improvement of policies, practices, and services relating to human rights.
The candidate must provide research support to other BCOHRC teams and work collaboratively with other departments in the delivery of research initiatives.
The candidate may be required to supervise research assistants and junior researchers and guide collaborative data collection, analysis, and design.
The candidate must perform other related duties and special projects as required.
Job Requirements The candidate must possess a master’s degree in social sciences or a related discipline, with training in qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis (such as public policy, political science, sociology, gender studies, health sciences, human geography, anthropology, economics), or an equivalent qualification.
The candidate must have experience working in an environment that supports or promotes human rights, equality, and justice, gained through paid or volunteer work or education.
The candidate must have a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant research experience in conducting primary and secondary research and analysis, including interviews, literature reviews, jurisdictional scans, and synthesis of complex research materials.
The candidate must have a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant research experience in critically analyzing and synthesizing secondary research,



including literature reviews and jurisdictional reviews.
The candidate must have a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant research experience in writing transparent, concise reports, research papers, briefing notes, presentations, and other materials that communicate complex issues to diverse audiences including provincial government policy makers, service providers, community partners, and the general public.
The candidate must have experience participating in research projects that require engagement and relationship management with multiple stakeholders or partners.
Preference may be given to applicants who are Indigenous, Black, or racialized, LGBTQ2SAI+, people with diverse gender identities or expressions, and/or people with disabilities, to complement the diversity of the BCOHRC team.
Preference may be given to applicants with lived experience in human rights work, including through personal identity and/or lived experiences related to human rights.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience building relationships and collaborating on research initiatives or projects with diverse communities, including Indigenous, Black, racialized peoples, LGBTQ2SAI+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience working with or for Indigenous nations or organizations.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience applying evaluation methods to measure impact in relation to strategic objectives.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience applying decolonizing research methodologies and/or Indigenous research methodologies.
Preference may be given to applicants with experience conducting both qualitative and quantitative research.
