Seeking a Tax Associate with 2+ years of law firm experience in tax planning, corporate transactions, and/or tax litigation. The role focuses on sophisticated domestic and international tax matters, CRA disputes, and tax issues, with candidates stronger in either tax planning or litigation considered.
Responsibilities
- Advise on and research domestic and international tax planning matters
- Review and revise corporate and transaction documents for Canadian tax considerations
- Draft tax memoranda, step plans, and corporate documents for reorganizations, rollovers, incorporations, and related transactions
- Advise on tax structures involving Holdcos, Opcos, trusts, and offshore entities
- Handle CRA audits, objections, appeals, and tax litigation
- Draft audit responses, notices of objection, notices of appeal, and discovery materials
- Analyze complex financial and cryptocurrency transaction records
- Communicate with clients, CRA representatives, accountants, valuators, and external counsel
Qualifications
- Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, or eligible for call/transfer before starting
- 2+ years of law firm experience in tax planning, corporate transactions, and/or tax litigation
- Experience with domestic/international tax planning and/or CRA audits, appeals, and litigation
- Strong tax research skills with proficiency in TaxNet Pro and Blue J
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and tax research abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working directly with clients on complex and high-stakes tax matters
- Strong file and deadline management skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
- Solid Excel/data-handling skills and offshore/cross-border experience are assets
- In-Depth Tax Program or Osgoode LLM in Taxation completed or in progress is an asset
- Experience using AI tools appropriately within legal workflows is an asset
