The Seed Technician supports agronomic research and trait development activities by processing seed samples, preparing shipments, and assisting with seed purification efforts. This role includes both indoor seed handling tasks and outdoor field activities, such as hand-harvesting canola and soybean plots.

Job Description

Sort incoming canola seed sample shipments.

Clean canola samples to prepare them for laboratory testing.

Package and ship canola samples.

Hand-harvest canola and soybean research plots.

Operate small stationary threshing equipment.

Clean, sort, treat, and package harvested seed.

Prepare packaged seed shipments.

Assist with end-of-season cleanup and inventory activities.

Support seed purification and new variety development processes.

Perform outdoor field work, including harvesting and equipment operation.





Follow safety and quality procedures while handling seed materials.

Skills Required

Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures.

Robust attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to handle repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.

Basic mechanical aptitude to operate small stationary equipment.

Ability to package, sort, and process agricultural products.

Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to perform physical tasks and lift/move seed materials as needed.

Ability to perform hand-harvesting activities in research plots.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks as required.

Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Education/Training/Certifications

High School Diploma or GED

Agricultural, farming, or seed processing experience is an asset.

Training in equipment operation and safety procedures will be provided.

Additional Requirements

Work schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time.

Comfortable performing field work in varying weather conditions.

Pay Rate/Salary

Estimated Salary: $19.90 to $27.90 per hour. Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors.
