The Shelter Support Worker role at YWCA Davenport is a full-time contract position working from 4:00 pm to midnight, Wednesday to Sunday. Candidates will utilize skills in crisis counseling, case management, and workshop development aimed at supporting young women and gender-diverse residents facing homelessness and trauma. Collaborating with a dynamic team, you will strive for a safe and inclusive setting for everyone at the shelter.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement support strategies for residents
• Provide daily assistance including hygiene items and tokens
• Ensure safety through risk assessments and safety plans
• Use mediation skills to foster a positive shelter atmosphere
• Advocate for clients navigating housing and mental health supports
Requirements:
• Degree in a related field (e.g., BSW)
• 3-5 years' experience in crisis counseling
• Knowledge in trauma, harm reduction, and anti-oppressive practices
• Experience with workshop development and delivery
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
