Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) – Fertility Clinic
Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable and patient-focused Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our fertility clinic team. The RPN will provide high-quality nursing care to patients throughout their fertility journey, supporting patients through diagnostic testing, fertility treatments and procedures while working collaboratively with physicians, registered nurses and the interdisciplinary team
The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient needs are essential
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Fertility Nursing
Provide safe, compassionate and patient-centred nursing care throughout the fertility treatment process
Support patients undergoing fertility investigations and treatments, including IUI, IVF and FET cycles
Provide patient education regarding fertility treatment plans, medications, procedures and follow-up care
Provide medication teaching and administration within the RPN scope of practice, including subcutaneous and intramuscular medications
Reinforce physician instructions and treatment plans and ensure patients understand next steps
Respond to patient questions and concerns and escalate clinical concerns appropriately to the RN or physician
Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients throughout their fertility journey
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
Assist physicians with clinical procedures and examinations, including IUI, endometrial biopsy, Pap testing and sonohysterogram
Prepare patients for procedures, including appropriate positioning, education and explanation of the procedure
Provide chaperone support during examinations and procedures as required
Assist with specimen collection, handling and processing according to clinic protocols
Monitor patients during and following procedures and report any concerns or changes in condition to the appropriate clinician
Provide appropriate post-procedure education and follow-up instructions
Assist with embryo transfer procedures and other fertility-related clinical procedures as directed
Support physicians and nursing staff during clinical procedures to ensure safe and efficient patient care
Recovery Room & Post-Procedure Care
Provide patient monitoring and nursing care following procedures and treatments
Assess patients for pain, bleeding, nausea, dizziness or other post-procedure concerns
Provide discharge instructions and reinforce post-procedure care requirements
Recognize and appropriately elevate abnormal findings or changes in patient condition
Ensure patients meet appropriate discharge criteria before leaving the clinic
This position does not include operating room responsibilities
Bloodwork, Results & Clinical Follow-Up
Review and follow up on patient results in accordance with established clinic protocols
Monitor bloodwork and ultrasound results throughout fertility treatment cycles
Review and follow up on Pap results, semen analysis results, TNI/ultrasound findings and other diagnostic results as assigned
Identify abnormal or clinically significant findings and escalate to the RN or physician as appropriate
Ensure outstanding results are followed up on in a timely manner
Communicate relevant results and treatment instructions to patients as directed by the physician
Maintain accurate documentation of results, follow-up and patient communication
Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Follow all clinic policies, procedures and established standards of practice
Adhere to infection prevention and control standards and maintain a safe clinical environment
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support ongoing clinic accreditation requirements
Support Qmentum accreditation standards and processes
Follow Health Canada requirements and applicable regulatory standards
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to quality assurance activities
Report incidents, safety concerns and potential risks through the appropriate channels
Clinic Operations & Team Support
Work collaboratively with RNs, RPNs, physicians, administrative staff and other members of the interdisciplinary team
Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and clinic operations
Support scheduling and coordination of patient appointments and clinical activities as required
Participate in clinic huddles, staff meetings and education sessions
Provide clinical support at both the Mississauga and Oakville locations as required
Maintain flexibility to support changing clinic needs and staffing requirements
Contribute to a positive, respectful and collaborative team environment
Qualifications & Requirements
Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Current BLS and ACLS certification required
Minimum one year of nursing experience
Previous experience in fertility, reproductive health, women’s health or a related clinical setting is considered an asset
Strong clinical assessment and communication skills
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple patient needs in a fast-paced environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation
Commitment to maintaining professional standards and continuing education
Career development
Participate in ongoing education and training related to fertility nursing and reproductive health
Maintain current nursing competencies and required certifications
Participate in clinic education, training and quality improvement initiatives
Stay current with applicable clinical guidelines, standards and regulatory requirements
Position Requirements
Full-time position
Ability to work at both Mississauga and Oakville locations as required
Availability to participate in weekend and holiday coverage as required by clinic operations
Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a high standard of patient care
This is an essential clinical position requiring regular direct patient contact
