P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC required

Role Description
We are seeking a Professional Electrical Engineer (P.Eng.) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant industrial experience to become a key technical member of Accel Systems. This is not intended to be a traditional desk-only consulting engineering position. We are looking for an engineer who enjoys being involved from the initial customer discussion and site investigation through engineering, estimating, construction, commissioning and final turnover. The successful candidate will work directly with our electricians, project managers, estimators, automation specialists, programmers and customers to develop practical industrial electrical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Automation cabinet design and electrical schematic drawings (AutoCAD Electrical)

Distribution design, single line diagrams, and layout drawings (AutoCAD)

Design industrial electrical power, distribution and control systems

Develop and authenticate electrical drawings and engineering documentation within the engineer's area of skilled practice

Prepare single-line diagrams, schematics, control drawings, layouts and construction packages

Perform load, feeder, transformer and service calculations

Perform voltage-drop and short-circuit calculations

Develop protection and coordination requirements

Design grounding and bonding systems

Size conductors, cables,



raceways and cable tray systems

Specify switchgear, distribution equipment, transformers, panelboards and MCCs

Engineer motor, starter and VFD applications

Design and review industrial control panels

Support PLC, automation and instrumentation system design

Develop equipment specifications and technical procurement packages

Review vendor drawings and equipment submittals

Conduct site investigations and field verification

Develop designs for brownfield plant upgrades and expansions

Troubleshoot electrical and control-system problems

Support equipment start-up and commissioning

Review completed installations for compliance with engineering requirements

Provide technical direction and support to electricians and technicians

Work with project managers on scope, budgets, schedules and constructability

Assist estimating with design-build and budget-level projects

Meet directly with customers to identify problems and develop practical solutions

Participate in continuous development of ASI's engineering standards and best practices

Required Qualifications
The candidate will meet most or all of the following qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an appropriate related engineering discipline

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC

Minimum 4 years of relevant electrical engineering experience

Significant industrial electrical experience

Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable BC requirements

Experience with 600V industrial electrical distribution

Experience with project estimating or budgeting

Strong understanding of three-phase electrical systems

Experience with motors, MCCs, starters and VFDs

Experience with industrial control systems

Ability to develop and review electrical single-line diagrams and schematics

Strong electrical troubleshooting capabilities

Experience working with construction and field personnel

Strong written and verbal communication skills





Strong problem solving and project management skills

Strong attention to detail

Self-motivated and able to prioritize multiple projects and priorities

Valid BC driver's licence

Highly Desirable Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

Industrial electrical contracting

Design-build industrial projects

Food and beverage processing facilities

Manufacturing

Aggregate and asphalt facilities

Brownfield plant expansions and upgrades

PLC and industrial automation

Rockwell / Allen-Bradley systems

VFD applications

MCC and control-panel design

Short-circuit and coordination studies

Project management

Construction management

Field commissioning and start-up

The Person We're Looking For
Technical ability is important, but we are equally interested in finding someone with a practical industrial mindset .

Our ideal engineer is comfortable walking into an operating plant, understanding the customer's problem, gathering the required field information and developing a solution that can actually be constructed.

You should be equally comfortable discussing a design with a plant manager, reviewing a single-line diagram with a customer, troubleshooting a VFD with an electrician or working with a programmer during commissioning.

Safe. Code-compliant. Practical. Constructible. Maintainable. Cost-effective.
This position has the potential to grow beyond individual project engineering.
