Overview

Reportingto the Senior Director, the Director, Policy, Regulation and Research provides leadership and direction forWorkSafeBC's policy, regulation ,and research functions. Supported by a team of policy, regulatory, and research professionals, this role is responsible for advancing evidence-based policydevelopment, regulatory analysis, environmental scanning, stakeholderengagement, and research initiatives that support WorkSafeBC's claims, insurance,and occupational health and safety mandates and long-term strategic objectives.

Thisis a specialized leadership role, requiring a leader who can connect the bestinterests of the workers compensation system, policy and regulation researchand analysis and stakeholder perspectives to make policy and regulationrecommendations to WorkSafeBC’s business areas and, ultimately, the Board ofDirectors.

Thisinfluential leadership role offers the chance to shape policy andregulatory outcomes that support secure and healthy workplaces across BritishColumbia.

Thisrole combines time in our offices with flexibility for remote work.

What you'll do

Lead WorkSafeBC's policy, regulatory, and research functions, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategicpriorities and mandate.

Provide strategic advice to senior leadershipon complex policy, legislative, regulatory, and governance issues.

Oversee the development and evaluation ofpolicy and regulatory initiatives.

Cultivate and maintain productiverelationships with government, regulators, industry, labour, researchers, andother key stakeholders.





Conduct outreach onsignificant policy and regulatory matters with our external communities andwith internal working groups.

Mentor and develop a high performing team,fostering collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuousimprovement.

Contribute as a key member of the leadershipteam, supporting enterprise strategy, organizational planning, anddecision-making.

We're looking for anexperienced leader who can:

Provide expert leadership in complex policy, regulatory, legislative, or governance environments.

Build credibility and influence with senior leaders,government representatives, and diverse stakeholder groups.

Analyze complex issues, assess competing interests,and develop clear, practical recommendations.

Apply systems thinking to understand the broaderimplications of policy and regulatory decisions.

Facilitate productive dialogue and build alignmentaround complex and sensitive issues.

Communicate with confidence and clarity throughexecutive briefings, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.

Lead, mentor, and develop teams while fostering aculture of collaboration, exc ellence, and continuous improvement.

Balance strategic thinking with sound judgment andeffective execution.

A law degree and current practicing membershipin good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia, with a minimum of 10years of experience in progressively senior leadership roles in policy, regulation, law, governance, research, or a related field, including experienceleading professional teams.

Experience providing strategic advice andrecommendations to executives, boards, government, regulators, or other seniordecision-makers.

Demonstrated success leading complex policy, legislative, regulatory, or research initiatives.

Strong stakeholder engagement,



facilitation,and presentation skills.

We may consider a candidate with a graduatelevel degree in public administration or occupational health and safety,combined with the requisite level of experience.
