Aplin has partnered with an established Canadian manufacturer serving the nuclear industry to recruit a Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Mechanical for its Niagara Falls, Ontario operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical/manufacturing engineering professional who enjoys working close to production and translating complex engineering requirements into practical, executable manufacturing solutions.
The successful candidate will play an integral role within the Fabrication Engineering team, converting customer and design requirements into production-ready fabrication packages while working closely with Production, Quality, Procurement and Engineering.
The Opportunity
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Mechanical will bridge the gap between engineering design and shop-floor execution.
You will be responsible for developing and releasing fabrication drawings, material bills of materials, manufacturing sequences, ERP routings and production orders while supporting tooling, fixtures, equipment selection and manufacturing process improvements.
This is a hands‑on engineering position suited to someone who understands how components are actually manufactured and can identify and resolve manufacturability challenges before they affect production.
Key Responsibilities
Review and interpret customer design specifications, fabrication specifications and technical requirements
Identify and resolve design ambiguities and manufacturability constraints early in the project lifecycle
Provide real-time engineering support to resolve fabrication and production challenges
Develop, review and release general arrangement and detailed fabrication drawing packages
Ensure fabrication packages are technically accurate, complete and ready for production
Develop and maintain accurate material Bills of Materials (BOMs), including material specifications and piece-part processing requirements
Work closely with Procurement regarding material requirements, supplier capabilities and sourcing considerations
Participate in design and manufacturability reviews for new and existing products
Apply Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly and Design for Inspection principles
Recommend practical design alternatives that improve manufacturability, quality, cost, safety and production efficiency
Develop manufacturing routings, fabrication sequences and operation requirements in collaboration with Production
Create and maintain production orders, ERP BOMs and manufacturing routings
Develop QC inspection requirements and support appropriate in-process inspection parameters
Design jigs, fixtures and tooling to improve safety, quality, efficiency and manufacturing repeatability
Evaluate fabrication methods and manufacturing capabilities based on cost, schedule, quality and safety requirements




Support equipment and tooling selection for manufacturing operations
Participate in plant equipment and machine design associated with capital and operational improvement projects
Perform tolerance stack‑up studies, fit‑up evaluations and assembly interference assessments
Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing operations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related mechanical engineering discipline
7+ years of relevant engineering experience combining mechanical design/CAD with practical manufacturing or fabrication experience
Experience within a heavy fabrication, industrial manufacturing, engineered equipment or similar production environment strongly preferred
C.E.T. or EIT designation considered an asset
Strong hands‑on SolidWorks and PDM experience
Strong understanding of mechanical drafting and fabrication drawings
Demonstrated understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Inspection (DFI)
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding, machining, forming, coating and mechanical assembly
Ability to interpret GD&T; and welding symbols
Experience developing and maintaining multi‑level BOMs, manufacturing routings and production orders within an ERP workplace
Experience evaluating fabrication processes and selecting appropriate manufacturing methods
Experience with tolerance stack‑up analysis, fit‑up evaluations and assembly interference assessments
Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or other Finite Element Analysis tools is preferred
SolidWorks Inspection experience is considered an asset
Plant equipment or machine design experience is considered an asset
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience working with ERP systems
Nuclear and Code Experience
Previous nuclear manufacturing experience is highly desirable but is not necessarily required for a candidate with strong heavy fabrication and manufacturing engineering experience.
Knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements, including Sections II, III and VIII, as well as CSA N285, CSA N299, B51 or other applicable nuclear and pressure‑boundary standards, is considered a significant asset.
Candidates coming from other highly regulated manufacturing environments such as pressure vessels, power generation, aerospace, defence,



heavy industrial equipment or engineered‑to‑order manufacturing may also be well suited to the opportunity.

You are a practical, production‑focused engineer who is comfortable moving between engineering drawings and the manufacturing floor.
You understand that a successful design must not only meet technical requirements—it must also be manufacturable, inspectable, safe and efficient to produce.
You bring strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a deadline‑driven manufacturing environment. You communicate effectively with engineers, production personnel, quality professionals, procurement teams and other stakeholders.
You also demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety, product quality and continuous improvement.
Success in the Role
Success will be measured by the accuracy and timely release of fabrication drawing packages, BOMs and production orders; minimizing engineering‑related production interruptions and rework; maintaining strong technical and quality compliance; and identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment and engineering cycle times.
