Telecommunications Technician (Term)

We currently have an chance for a Telecommunications Technician (Term) to join our MCSnet team. Reporting to the Installation & Scheduling Manager, the Telecommunications Technician will be the face of MCSnet, performing customer equipment upgrades, service calls, radio retrievals, fixed wireless installations, and general maintenance for the MCSnet network.
We are looking for highly motivated, customer-focused individuals who work collaboratively with internal departments (including Installation & Scheduling and Tech Support) to deliver high-quality broadband service, ensure customer satisfaction, and maintain rigorous safety and operational standards. All required tools, equipment, supplies, and a company-provided service vehicle are supplied by MCSnet.
Key Responsibilities The responsibilities of the Marketing Intern include, but are not limited to:
- Contacts customers per work order instructions, confirm service locations, drive safely to sites, and check in via the MCSnet Bams mobile app. Explains work activities clearly, answers subscriber questions professionally, and leaves official company leave-behind materials if the customer is absent.
- Performs installation, modification, and removal of MCSnet technology equipment. Securely mounts radios/antennas, tripods, J-Arms, or masts; properly run and secure cables (with drip loops, grounding, surge suppression, and sealed building penetrations); and terminate indoor and outdoor Ethernet cabling.
- Securely configures wireless routers (ensuring no open networks are deployed), optimize placement and performance to meet MCSnet standards, and assists customers in connecting their personal devices.
- Performs radio changeouts/upgrades to optimize signal strength, diagnose and resolve technical issues,
and verifies link and radio performance before departing customer premises.
- Works safely at heights involving ladder work (up to 32 ft), tower work (up to 40 ft), roofs, and elevated platforms. Operates power tools, bucket trucks, man lifts, and commercial vehicles (including towing trailers) safely.
- Retrieves equipment/routers safely during cancellations or complete assigned delivery/assessment tasks. Maintains a fully stocked service vehicle daily and track consumable inventory.
- Updates and closes work orders/tickets in real time within the BAMS mobile application. Treats subscriber data with strict confidentiality, maintaining zero retention of private records, payment details, passwords, or site photos outside authorized workflows.
- Follows all company safety procedures, fosters a safety culture among peers, proactively resolves or escalates unassigned tasks, and handles one-time ad hoc operational needs as required.
Qualifications: Include but are not limited to:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. Previous telecom experience, network experience, or 1 year in a technically related field is preferred.
- Fall Protection and Elevated Work Platform certifications are required. Knowledge of applicable safety standards, federal regulations, laws, and policies.
- Basic skills in electrical and wireless broadband equipment, strong computer proficiency (including Google Office Suite), mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and skilled operation of power tools.
- Fluent in English with strong verbal, written, and listening skills. Ability to educate customers and explain technical concepts clearly. Exemplifies MCSnet’s Core Values: Integrity, Respect, Teamwork, Communication, Courtesy, and Accountability.
- Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, organizational, and time management skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and comfortably perform work on ladders (up to 32 ft) and towers (up to 40 ft).
- Must hold a valid driver's license, maintain a clean driver's abstract, and pass a clean criminal record check. Experience operating commercial vehicles and towing trailers is an asset.
- Willingness to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) and travel for extended periods/overnight as required.
