We foster a culture where respect is foundational, innovation is encouraged, and safety is never compromised.At Cementation, we value experience and are inspired by potential.About This PositionThe Contracts Specialist reports to the Contracts Manager and works closely with senior management to review contractual terms, advise on issues, and assist in drafting qualifications and amendments to reduce exposure. The specialist also drafts joint venture or other collaborative arrangements, handles contract administration, and is skilled in contract drafting, review, negotiation, and claims management.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesHealth & SafetyWork in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations of Cementation.Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report them to the Health and Safety Department.Maintain a safe and organized workspace, including when working at project sites and in technology‑related environments.General ResponsibilitiesDraft contractual qualifications for tenders and contractual amendments for mainly mining and engineering contracts.Draft notices,
claims and other correspondence with regards to commercial and contract issues.Review Client contractual terms for tender submittals.Participate in negotiations with Clients to resolve contractual issues and finalize terms.Verify execution copies of contracts and assist in the execution process.Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to ensure contractual compliance and address any discrepancies or issues.Participate in contract compliance audits, risk assessments, and the development of strategies to mitigate risks.Mentor and advise team members in contract management and claims management principles.Maintain, update, utilise and further develop the Company’s library of standard contract documents.Assist in drafting and negotiating other commercial documents e.G. joint venture agreements, collaboration agreements with First Nations, etc.Provide support to other business functions (engineering, procurement, finance, information technology, and asset management) in contractual arrangements.Advise on legal issues and provide support for any litigation.Support external counsel with regard to various matters.Provide management with briefings and other reports highlighting potential contractual risks and liabilities.Other duties as assigned.Travel RequirementsMay require occasional travel to Clients or external lawyers; period usually not exceeding three days at a time.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNo direct reports, but responsible for delegating and monitoring work of employees in various departments.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Law.Minimum of 8 years relevant experience,
preferably in the mining, engineering or construction industries.Consideration also given to contractual/commercial experience in heavy civil construction.Experience in FIDIC, NEC contracts advantageous.Skills, Knowledge and AbilitiesExceptional written and oral communication skills in English.Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication abilities necessary to carry out reviews of contracts and other commercial documents.Strong negotiation and leadership skills considered an asset.Strong commercial / business acumen.Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, clients and stakeholders.Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.High level of confidentiality and trust.Ability to prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met.Proactive, takes initiative to address problems and follows through, working closely and collaboratively with the leadership team.Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Excel).Experience working with international contracts also considered advantageous.CandidacyEligible candidates are Canadian citizens or have written authorization to work in Canada under federal immigration requirements and must currently reside in Canada.Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and InclusionAt Cementation Americas, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace where every employee is treated with dignity and respect.
