Job Title: Assistant Coach (1 position)

Commitment: Sep: 29th, 2026 - December 14th, 2026 (Possibility of contract extension up to June 2027, pending funding.)

Duration: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Sobeys Stadium (1 Shoreham Drive)

Compensation: Starting at $18/hour (based on experience)

Who We Are:

The Jane / Finch Community Tennis Association is a community-based not-for-profit organization that is committed to operating within an Anti-Oppressive and trauma-informed framework to engage our community. We aim to work in a manner that is both productive and constructive to enhance individual strengths; and promote positive developmental outcomes for young people. JFCTA utilizes sport as a vehicle to develop the capacity of youth within our organization and community.

Our programs are explicitly designed to be low-cost, and barrier-free.

We are seeking an Assistant Coach for our After School Program. The right candidate for this position will have experience in delivering a tennis program to children/youth ages 10-25, will help support the Head coach to lead practices, provide instruction to players of varying skill levels, and create a fun, positive learning environment. Ideal candidates share our values, have a passion for tennis, great communication skills, and experience working with youth and children.

Assistant Coach Responsibilities:

The Assistant Coach will report for the After-School Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm beginning October 1st, 2026, and concluding on December 14th, 2026. Paid training day will be Tuesday, Sept 29 at 5pm in the program location.



Possibility of contract extension up to June 2027, pending funding.

- Review and execute weekly lesson plans prepared by the Head Coach.
- Encourage and motivate young players of all skill levels
- Lead groups, prepare activities, and implement activities in accordance to lesson plans
- Supervise participants to create a safe and fun learning environment
- Communicate with coaches, colleagues, and parents/guardians in a professional manner
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of each organization
- The Assistant Coach will report directly to the Head Coach and Program Operations Manager.

Skills and Attributes:

- Experience working with children and youth in the Jane/Finch or similar community
- Have the ability to instruct and demonstrate the 5 fundamentals of tennis
- Ability to organize and lead children and youth
- Punctuality and sufficient time management skills
- Work responsibility and collaboratively as a part of a team and independently
- Be respectful of the values and code of conduct of the organization
- Be organized and punctual to achieve and finish tasks on time with quality
- Strong ability to problem solve and adapt to situations
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times

Requirements:





- Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Positive, enthusiastic, and committed to youth development through sport
- Experience instructing and teaching the sport of tennis

Assets:

- Instructor Certificate (not required)
- Current First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain)
