Introduction
Forestry and Peatlands Branch is seeking to fill the position of Urban Forestry Technician. This is a senior technical field position that oversees the delivery and data collection of various urban forestry programs, initiatives and enforcement activities across Manitoba. This position assists in the coordination of internal and external urban forestry training, tree planting, and outreach programs.

Duties:
This position is responsible for supporting in the administration, implementation and organization of urban forestry program initiatives. This position coordinates tree inventory and distribution, is responsible for data management for urban forestry programs and conducting urban forestry field surveys, audits and inspections. This position is responsible for delivering training and presentations to internal and external stakeholders, special interest groups, and the public.

Qualifications:

Post secondary education in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Urban Forestry, or other environmental science discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Experience with urban forestry, tree planting and/or urban forestry programs and practices.

Experience collecting, reviewing, compiling and managing data.





Experience supervising staff including providing training, guidance and performance management.

Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

Experience driving a variety of vehicles, such as trucks, van, and/or all terrain vehicles, including towing trailers over a variety of terrain.

Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders and the public.

Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, schedule and manage deadlines.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team setting.

Conditions of Employment:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent from another province

Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via trucks, all-terrain vehicles, boats, or rotary or fixed wing aircraft

Must be willing and able to work overtime when required and work out-of-town for extended periods of up to ten days with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels and tents

Must be physically capable of performing duties of the position which require moderate physical effort including carrying equipment and forestry samples for long distances potentially over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions
