About Prairie Gateway Rail

Prairie Gateway Rail Ltd. (PGR) is a Manitoba-based rail services company providing industrial switching, track maintenance, rail infrastructure, and rail advisory services to rail-served industries throughout Western Canada.

As our operations continue to grow, we are seeking two (2) experienced Trackmobile Operator / Track Maintainer to support rail operations at a major industrial bulk liquid storage and distribution facility in Winnipeg.

This position combines industrial railcar switching, track maintenance, and terminal rail operations within a highly regulated environment where safety, reliability, and adherence to operating procedures are essential. The successful candidate will work around rail-served facilities handling regulated commodities and will play a key role in supporting safe and efficient rail operations.

Experience working in industrial terminals, tank farms, petroleum facilities, chemical plants, bulk liquid storage facilities, or similar industrial environments is considered a robust asset.

Key Responsibilities

- Safely operate Trackmobile equipment for industrial railcar switching and positioning.
- Move, spot, secure, and retrieve loaded and empty railcars throughout the facility.
- Couple and uncouple railcars in accordance with established operating procedures.
- Verify switch positions, derail positions, routing, and track occupancy prior to movements.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and basic preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Assist with railcar inspections and ensure railcars are properly secured.
- Perform railway track maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation activities.
- Remove and install ties, spikes, anchors, plates, and other track materials.
- Assist with track lifting, lining, gauging, surfacing, and tamping operations.
- Perform ballast placement and distribution activities.
- Assist with turnout and switch inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Operate railway hand tools, hydraulic tools, track jacks, and maintenance equipment.
- Follow all site-specific safety policies, operating procedures, and environmental requirements.
- Maintain awareness of hazardous materials handling requirements and emergency response procedures.
- Identify and report track defects, equipment deficiencies, and safety concerns.
- Complete required operating, inspection, and safety documentation.
- Coordinate activities with terminal personnel, contractors, and railway representatives.
- Maintain a safe, qualified,



and organized work environment.
- Support additional railway and field operations as required.

QualificationsRequired

- Previous Trackmobile or equivalent railcar mover operating experience.
- Previous railway track maintenance, construction, or inspection experience.
- Knowledge of industrial rail switching and safe railcar handling practices.
- Experience working with railway track tools and materials.
- Strong commitment to safety and procedural compliance.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with reliable transportation.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, overtime, evenings, and weekends as operational requirements dictate.

Considered an Asset

- Experience handling tank cars and bulk liquid commodity movements.
- Experience working in petroleum, chemical, energy, fertilizer, grain, or other industrial facilities.
- Familiarity with tank farm operations, loading racks, and bulk storage terminals.
- CROR qualifications or industrial railway operating experience.
- Track inspection experience.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification.
- Experience operating tampers, regulators, loaders, backhoes, or other railway and heavy equipment.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- WHMIS certification.
- Experience working within permit-to-work systems, contractor safety programs, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Experience working in Class I railway or highly regulated industrial environments.

Compensation $30.00-$38.00 per hour, based on demonstrated railway experience, qualifications, certifications, and equipment operating capabilities.

Additional compensation may be available for candidates possessing specialized railway, safety, or heavy equipment qualifications.

Overtime opportunities are available based on operational requirements.
