Oversee day-to-day financial operations and provide senior-level financial and budget planning support
Maintain the Association’s system of accounts and ensure accurate, timely financial data
Perform general ledger reconciliations and analysis
Oversee financial software administration for full-cycle accounting and payroll
Develop and implement financial policies, standards, procedures, and internal controls
Oversee Association banking functions
Monitor regulatory changes and reporting requirements
Provide financial advice, reporting, education, guides, and training materials to staff
Develop reporting tools and information delivery processes
Support forecasting and annual budget planning, including projections, fund structures, costing models, and risk analysis
Manage month-end and financial review processes
Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for the Board’s Finance and Audit Committee
Coordinate annual audited financial statements and external financial audits
Prepare external financial reports for funders and other organizations
Supervise Finance and Payroll staff, including orientation, evaluation, development, scheduling, and employment-related procedures
Participate in researching and implementing financial information systems
Requirements Undergraduate degree
Skilled designation in accounting from a recognized educational institution (CPA)
Minimum 6+ years’ progressive experience in a professional accounting position, preferably with fund accounting
Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a financial controller with supervisory experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, deferral method of accounting restricted revenue, registered charity accounting standards, and regulations governing non-profit organizations
Thorough understanding of complex budgets and financial statements
Thorough knowledge of accounting, payroll, and office procedures




Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, notably Excel
Experience with accounting systems such as Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, Martus, Float, and Payworks
Ability to supervise and train employees and assign work in a busy environment
Ability to develop and prepare consolidated budgets and financial statements
Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills
Demonstrated decision-making ability and leadership skills
Ability to interpret and enforce applicable financial policies with tact and diplomacy
Strong office administration skills
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Successful completion of background screening, including a provincial criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening, and education verification
