As the Intermediate Accountant, you enjoy getting into the details, solving problems and making sure the numbers tell the right story.
This is a great opportunity for an accounting professional with a few years of experience who is ready to broaden their skills and gain exposure across the full accounting cycle. You’ll work closely with our Accounting Manager and finance team while supporting an organization that plays an important role in Alberta’s agriculture industry.
You possess a continuous improvement mindset with a knack for developing processes while contributing positively as a collaborative team member.
Responsibilities
Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger records
Complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close
Assist with financial statements, management reporting and financial analysis
Manage and support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with collections
Prepare schedules and working papers for our annual external audit
Assist with budget monitoring and budget-to-actual variance reporting
Support project, grant, research and other financial reporting
Work with colleagues across the organization to answer questions and solve accounting issues
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems and internal controls
Qualifications:
A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
2–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a full-cycle environment
Hands‑on experience with AP, AR, reconciliations, journal entries and general ledger accounting
A solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel (experience with Xero accounting software would be an asset)
Robust attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
The ability to organize competing priorities and meet deadlines
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
The confidence to investigate discrepancies, ask questions and follow issues through to resolution
