List of Requirements
Applicants must have at least five years of excavator operating experience in construction, civil, land-development, forestry-road, or comparable earthworks environments.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate safe, productive excavator operation and competent grading, material placement, and cut-and-fill work.
A valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence, or an equivalent licence accepted for work in BC, is required. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to work in Powell River for the complete six-to-eight-week contract.
A current occupational first-aid certificate, site-safety training, and experience completing daily equipment inspections are assets.
Westcoast Endeavours ULC is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator for a short-term construction project in Powell River, BC at Pine Tree Community RV Park. The successful candidate will help build and finish access roads and RV pads, working with the site team to complete secure, accurate, and productive earthworks. Westcoast Endeavours ULC will supply Volvo 290 for roadwork and Cat 308 for pad formation; we also have a John Deere Loader on site.
This is a full-time, fixed-term employee position for approximately six to eight weeks.
We welcome applicants who are already local to Powell River or who can relocate to Powell River for the full contract period. Accommodation and travel support. Housing at the Park is an option as a part of the job offer.
List of Duties
You will operate an excavator to construct and prepare roads and RV pads.
Your work will include stripping and excavation, cut-and-fill activities, material handling, rough and finish grading, drainage preparation, subgrade shaping, and general site cleanup.
You will work to layout, grade, and direction from the site supervisor, coordinate safely with trucks and ground personnel, and help maintain orderly work areas.
You will complete daily pre-operational inspections, identify equipment concerns promptly, and follow the project safety program, safe-work procedures, and all applicable regulatory requirements. You will be expected to use sound judgement around utilities, slopes, changing ground conditions, public access, and other equipment working on site.
Road-building experience is a strong asset.
Preference will be given to candidates with practical experience building or rehabilitating access roads, shaping subgrades, establishing drainage, working with aggregate, and preparing finished pads or building sites. Experience reading grade stakes, working to laser or GPS guidance, and operating complementary equipment is also an asset.
