Position Summary The Wellness Program Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the YMCA of Cumberland’s commitment to building healthy, connected, and resilient communities. This position develops and coordinates programs and initiatives that support the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of children, youth, families, and community members.
With a particular focus on youth and senior programming, food security, community engagement, and access to resources, the Community Wellness Coordinator works directly with community members and provides a range of facilitated activities. This is a highly collaborative, community-based role suited to someone who is energetic, organized, compassionate, and committed to creating meaningful opportunities for people of all ages.
Role and Responsibilities
· Develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging programs and activities that promote the well-being and healthy development of children and youth.
· Support youth through positive recreational, educational, social, leadership, and skill-development opportunities.
· Create safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments where young people feel a sense of belonging.
· Incorporate physical activity, mental wellness, healthy living, social connection, life skills, and personal development into youth programming.
· Engage youth in identifying their interests, priorities, and community needs.
· Coordinate youth-focused workshops, events, camps, drop-in programs, and special initiatives as required.
· Support programs such as community meals, food distribution, food hampers, and community gardens
· Assist with food procurement, inventory, distribution, program logistics, and record keeping as required.
· Coordinate program schedules, registrations, facilities, supplies, equipment, transportation, and other operational requirements.
· Maintain accurate attendance, participation, volunteer, inventory, and program records.
Qualifications
· Post-secondary education in community development, recreation, health promotion, social services, child and youth care, public health, nutrition, food security, education, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Experience working with children, youth, families, or community members.
· Experience coordinating community programs, events, outreach initiatives, or volunteer-driven activities.
Assets include
· Experience in youth programming, youth leadership, recreation, or camp programming.
· Experience with food security, food access, community kitchens, food distribution, nutrition education, or community gardens.
· Knowledge of community resources and social services within Cumberland County.
· Experience coordinating volunteers.
· Experience with grants, program evaluation, outcome measurement, or funder reporting.
· First Aid/CPR certification.
· Mental Health First Aid or other relevant wellness training.
· Food handling certification or related food safety training.
Security and Safety: Bondable, Criminal record check, Child abuse registry check
Transportation/Travel Information: Valid driver's licence
