Job Title: Senior Geologist

Department: Technical Services / Geology
Reports To: General Manager

Location: Site-based / Hybrid (as applicable)

Position Summary

The Senior Geologist is a senior technical leadership role responsible for providing direction, oversight, and accountability for geological activities across the operation. The role supports both current open pit mining and the planned transition to underground operations and plays a key role in integrating geology, mine planning, engineering, and operational execution.

With a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience, the Senior Geologist provides leadership to the geology function, coordinates technical programs, and acts as a key technical authority supporting operational performance, resource development, and long-term mine planning, while maintaining accountability for budgets, cost control, and efficient use of resources.

Key Responsibilities

Geological Leadership & Oversight

Provide overall direction and technical oversight for geological activities across open pit and underground operations
Establish geological priorities, work plans, and technical standards in alignment with operational and strategic objectives
Review and approve geological interpretations, models, resource estimates, grade control programs, and reconciliation results
Ensure geological work meets professional, regulatory, and corporate standards (including NI 43-101 where applicable)

Open Pit & Underground Integration

Lead geological input into open pit design, sequencing, and grade control strategies
Provide geological leadership for future underground mine planning, including development strategies, geological risk assessment, and ground condition interpretation
Ensure geological considerations are fully integrated into short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans

Drill & Blast Program Leadership

Provide geological leadership and coordination for drill and blast programs
Work closely with mine engineering,



operations, and contractors to align blast designs with geological conditions and production objectives
Review blast performance and outcomes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to fragmentation, dilution, and ore recovery

Exploration & Resource Development

Provide direction and oversight for exploration drilling and geological investigation programs
Evaluate results and recommend development or expansion opportunities to support mine life extension
Support the conversion of resources to reserves in collaboration with engineering and technical services teams

Team Leadership & Development

Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to geologists and geological technicians
Assign work, review outputs, and ensure quality and consistency of deliverables
Support training, competency development, and succession within the geology function

Budget Ownership & Cost Control

Develop, manage, and be accountable for geology, exploration, and drill-and-blast-related budgets
Monitor expenditures against approved budgets and forecasts, identifying risks, variances, and opportunities for cost optimization
Approve and prioritize geological and exploration expenditures in alignment with operational and strategic objectives
Work with procurement, finance, and contractors to ensure cost-effective delivery of geological services and programs
Contribute to annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes

Data Governance & Reporting

Accountable for the integrity, accuracy, and management of geological data




Review and approve technical reports, presentations, and internal or external disclosures
Provide geological input to permitting, environmental assessments, and underground development studies

Health, Safety & Compliance

Lead the geology function in promoting strong health, safety, and environmental performance
Ensure geological and drill-and-blast activities comply with site safety requirements and regulatory standards
Actively reinforce a safety-first culture through visible leadership and accountability

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Qualified Designation

Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline
Professional designation required (P.Geo., P.Eng., or equivalent), in good standing
Post-graduate education considered an asset

Experience

Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in mining geology or geological engineering
Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership in both open pit and underground mining environments
Experience leading or coordinating drill and blast programs
Experience with budget development, cost control, and financial accountability in a mining environment
Strong understanding of geological controls on mine design, blasting performance, dilution, and recovery

Skills & Competencies

Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage competing priorities
Strong professional judgment and financial acumen
Ability to balance technical rigor with operational efficiency and cost discipline
Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills
Proficiency with industry-standard geological and mine planning software

Working Conditions

Site-based or hybrid role depending on operational requirements
May require travel, rotational schedules, or extended hours during key operational periods
