Job Title: Project Manager
Job Description
The Project Manager leads the planning, organization, direction, and control of complex construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. This role focuses on large-scale heavy civil and wastewater infrastructure projects and contributes directly to the continued and sustainable growth of the organization. The Senior Project Manager oversees all aspects of project execution, from contract management and budgeting to stakeholder communication and team leadership.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong safety leadership to the project team and subcontractors, promoting a culture of safety and compliance with all site and regulatory requirements.
- Plan, schedule, and control the daily activities of assigned projects to ensure milestones and deadlines are consistently met.
- Manage prime contract and subcontract agreements, ensuring all terms, conditions, and obligations are clearly understood and properly administered.
- Lead subcontract negotiations and awards, selecting and engaging subcontractors who meet project scope, quality, and schedule expectations.
- Develop, monitor, and manage project budgets, including cost control, forecasting, and project billings to maintain financial performance and profitability.
- Oversee contract administration activities such as Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, and related documentation to maintain accurate project records.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships and clear communication with clients, consultants, architects, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate and integrate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) scopes into the overall project plan, ensuring alignment with design and construction requirements.
- Utilize scheduling tools such as MS Project and P6 to develop, update, and analyze project schedules and critical paths.
- Monitor project progress against schedule and budget, proactively identifying risks and implementing corrective actions to keep the project on track.
- Support and guide site teams, superintendents, and skilled trades to ensure quality standards, productivity targets, and project specifications are met.
- Participate in progress meetings and presentations, providing transparent updates on project status, issues, and action plans.
- Ensure all project documentation, including reports and correspondence, is complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned and best practices to enhance future project delivery.
Essential Skills
- 7 to 12 years of experience in wastewater infrastructure or heavy civil construction, such as infrastructure or oil and gas projects.
- 10 years of overall construction experience, which may include skilled trades, superintendent, project manager, or related roles.
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale projects with individual project values of more than $30 million.
- Strong project management capabilities in construction environments, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects safely, on time, and within budget.
- Proficiency with project scheduling tools, including MS Project and P6, for planning, tracking, and analyzing project timelines.
- Experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) coordination within construction projects.
- Ability to manage prime contracts and subcontracts, including negotiation, administration, and performance oversight.
- Solid understanding of contract administration processes, including RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with clients, consultants, architects, and project teams.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Gold Seal certification is considered an asset.
- Experience working on water and wastewater infrastructure projects and heavy civil construction is highly beneficial.
- Experience in industrial, commercial, and institutional construction market segments is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects in the range of tens of millions of dollars, with exposure to projects valued up to $200 million.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency in construction documentation, reporting, and stakeholder communication.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in project management and construction practices.
Work Environment
This role operates within a privately owned, family-oriented construction services and solutions provider serving the Canadian construction market. The Project Manager works in a dynamic project environment that includes both office-based planning and on-site coordination. Projects are typically in the water and wastewater infrastructure and industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors, with individual project values that can reach upwards of $200 million. You will regularly collaborate with clients, consultants, architects, and multidisciplinary project teams, using tools such as MS Project and P6 for scheduling and coordination. This is a Contract position based out of Mississauga, ON. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $77.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Workplace Type
