Accounting Manager
About the Opportunity
Our client is looking for an experienced accounting leader to join a sophisticated corporate finance environment. This position combines technical accounting expertise, financial reporting, people leadership, and process improvement.
The successful candidate will lead a team of accounting professionals responsible for maintaining high-quality financial information across a diverse and complex business portfolio. Beyond overseeing day-to-day accounting activities, this individual will play an important role in strengthening financial controls, improving the close process, supporting organizational change, and developing the capabilities of the accounting team.
This is a strong opportunity for a CPA who enjoys solving complex problems, working in an evolving environment, and taking ownership of both results and process improvements.
This role offers a competitive compensation package including base salary of $115K-$125K+, bonus, retirement savings program, benefits program, and more. The total compensation package is in the range of $152K-$165K. What You'll Be Responsible For
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee accounting activities across multiple entities and ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and delivered on a timely basis.
- Help drive an efficient and consistent month-end and quarter-end close process.
- Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, policies, and reporting matters.
- Apply IFRS principles to accounting and financial reporting issues as required.
- Support the preparation of reliable financial information and analysis for senior leadership.
- Investigate accounting issues, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to resolve financial reporting and accounting matters.
Controls, Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate and support external audit activities, including planning, preparation, information requests, and issue resolution.
- Maintain a strong focus on financial reporting controls and audit readiness.
- Support the design, operation, documentation, and continuous improvement of internal control processes.
- Help ensure accounting activities remain compliant with applicable policies, reporting standards, and control requirements.
Transformation & Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and improve accounting processes across the organization.
- Lead or contribute to initiatives involving automation, technology adoption, and more efficient accounting workflows.
- Look for opportunities to reduce manual work, improve data quality, and accelerate reporting timelines.
- Contribute to finance transformation and change-management initiatives.
- Support accounting requirements associated with acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations, and other significant corporate transactions.
- Help establish scalable accounting practices that can support future growth.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of accounting professionals.
- Establish clear expectations and foster an workplace of accountability, collaboration, and continuous development.
- Provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback and participate in formal performance management processes.
- Identify development opportunities and help build a strong internal talent pipeline and succession capability.
- Encourage team members to take ownership, develop their technical capabilities, and identify opportunities to improve how work gets done.
Business Partnership
- Develop effective relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders across finance and the broader organization.
- Communicate accounting matters and financial implications clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
- Support management with timely analysis and information to facilitate business decisions.
- Take a proactive approach to identifying issues and moving solutions forward.
What We're Looking For
- Canadian CPA designation, or an internationally qualified accounting professional who has successfully completed the Canadian CPA examination process.
- Approximately 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a complex corporate, professional services,
or multinational environment.
- At least 2 years of people-management or formal team leadership experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS.
- Experience with enterprise-level financial close and reporting processes.
- Working knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting control frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop accounting professionals.
- Strong judgment and problem-solving skills, particularly when dealing with complex or ambiguous accounting matters.
- Experience participating in finance transformation, process redesign, automation, or other large-scale change initiatives is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management capabilities.
- A practical, action-oriented approach and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving setting.
- A genuine interest in improving processes rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
- Technology Experience
Experience with enterprise accounting, financial close, consolidation, or reporting platforms is an asset. Familiarity with contemporary finance technology and automation tools will be viewed favorably.
