Animal Services Officer– Full Time Permanent

What You’ll Be Doing:
Under the direction of the Animal Services Manager, the Animal Services Officer will be primarily responsible for:
- Investigating and act upon bylaw infractions related to animal control for the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo, Stratford-Perth and municipalities.
- Responsible for enforcing the companion animal licensing program and issuing Provincial Offence Notices.
- Patrol the city parks, operating The Humane Society vehicle or on foot.
- Pick up deceased animals from public or private property. Transport stray animals to the animal centre
- Take witness statements, gather evidence, and prepare court documents.
- Keeping accurate, detailed notes and completing reports.
- Required to appear and testify in court proceedings and appeal tribunals.
Qualifications & Skill Required:
- Post-secondary education in Police Foundations or Law & Security, Animal Health Technology; and preferred knowledge of Animal Welfare and husbandry practices would be ab asset.
- A valid class “G” driver license with a clean driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to provide and maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Drivers Abstract
- Ability to provide and maintain a clean Police Clearance Certificate
- Able to wear required personal and protective equipment
- Ability to build and foster effective relationships with Staff, Volunteers, Customers, Partners, Sponsors, Community Groups, members of the public and municipalities, etc.
- You are passionate about animal welfare and have a strong commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership.
- You have a strong sense of responsibility, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to upholding animal protection laws.
Working Conditions:
- Able to work variable shifts, including on-call shifts, evenings weekends and statutory holidays
- Work will be conducted for the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo, Stratford-Perth, and municipalities.
- An emotional and sometimes challenging environment. Working with, and discovering, animals who have been abused, neglected, mistreated, have behavioral challenges or are experiencing various health issues.
- Risk of exposure to animal bites, scratches, infections, and infectious diseases.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with regular interaction with animals, staff, volunteers, and community members.
