We are looking for a Assistant Category Manager - Packaging to join our dynamic team at Trophy Foods. This position is for an existing vacancy and offers the opportunity to:

Overview: Reporting to the Category Manager - Packaging, the Assistant Category Manager is responsible for coordinating procurement activities related to packaging categories across the business – this includes both our Canadian and US facilities. This role is focused on supporting Category Management, maintaining accurate procurement and supplier data, coordinating with suppliers and cross-functional teams, and helping ensure continuity of packaging material supply within cost and quality constraints. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Category Manager with the daily administration of category responsibilities.
- Manage and maintain supplier and procurement master data, including lead times, delivery methods, costs, stocking types,
purchase orders, open commitments and other key procurement information within applicable systems.
- Review packaging demand and forecasts, and input and update contracts in the ERP system (JD Edwards) to support adequate contract coverage and continuity of supply.
- Obtain pricing from suppliers and update price catalogs within the ERP system.
- Maintain supplier master data repository.
- Manage cost changes from suppliers and communicate to Category Manager.
- Support the Category Manager with ad hoc projects, reporting, data analysis, information gathering, and data consolidation.
- Work cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Material Planning, Product Development, Operations and other teams to resolve daily issues and ensure critical steps in new product launches and packaging transitions are met.
- Partner with the Category Manager to support sourcing activities and the execution of category priorities across packaging materials.
- Coordinate directly with suppliers and internal stakeholders to follow up on orders, contracts, lead times, supply requirements, discrepancies, returns/replacements, credits, quality matters, and other day-to-day packaging procurement needs.
- Communicate to the business liabilities, dispositions, and obsolescence details for transitioning items.
- Prepare, maintain, and analyze recurring procurement, inventory, demand, cost, and supplier reports to support decision making, identify required actions, and track high-volume packaging activity and transitions.
- Monitor supplier performance, inventory, and contractual requirements; identify discrepancies or risks and coordinate follow-up actions as required.
- Stay current on industry and competitive landscape.
- Achieve corporate customer fill rate goal of 98%.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements:
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in Business Administration or related field – focus on Procurement or general Supply Chain Management preferred.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, material planning, or a related field. CPG or food industry experience is considered an asset.
- Prior packaging and/or artwork experience is considered an asset but is not required.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal required.
- Ability to prepare clear, well-structured summaries and presentations to support supplier reviews, sourcing activities, and decision making.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to develop well-reasoned, fact-based arguments. Ability to distill data from multiple sources into summary documentation to support decision making and direction setting.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Excel proficiency should include PivotTables and lookup functions such as VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
- Hands-on experience using ERP functionality in a purchasing, procurement, or supply chain capacity.
- Prior experience with JD Edwards, including Supply Management and/or Material Planning functionality, is considered an asset.
- Professional designation or certification in Purchasing or related field an asset.
