As the Marine Technical Mechanic, you'll work in a hands-on, flexible environment where you can leverage your expertise in diesel engines, hydraulics, and fabrication without the constraints of a large shop. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a semi-independent setting, handling everything from diagnostics to custom repairs. Even though you have never worked in a marine environment you understand the basics of machinery and the ancillary support systems .

Heavy- Duty Mechanic/Millwright

We have an immediate opening for an Assistant Marine Technical Manager based out of our Nakusp, BC location. This position is responsible for the mechanical maintenance and repairs of an inland water marine fleet and other heavy-duty equipment. This position interfaces with the operations team to ensure the fleet is operating efficiently, effectively and safely.

Additional duties include marine vessel refits and overseeing mechanical engineering projects of various sizes and complexity. Reporting to the Marine Technical Manager, he/she will be considered the technical resource for all employees.

Key Accountabilities

· Performs work with safety as a priority

· Responds to equipment emergency situations locally and remotely

· Maintains service logs and records of maintenance on equipment

· Uses cutting and welding equipment for fabrication of small parts required during maintenance

· Trouble-shoots and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic systems

· Maintain mechanical systems related to the water/sewer, HVAC and building systems, fire alarms

· Performs a wide variety of general and specialized maintenance and repairs to the engineering systems including: pipe fitting, electrical, welding, machining and custom fabrication using a wide range of materials

· Inspecting, maintaining and rebuilding motors and pumps and other machinery associated with marine support systems and building systems

Certificates

· Red Seal Mechanic or Millwright Designation or relevant certificates

· Class 5 abstract required

Additional Valued Certificates

· Crane Ticket - folding boom, 10 ton an asset

· Valid Class 3 license with heavy trailer endorsement or better an asset

· Proficient in welding

Skills/Experience

· Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a journeyman





· All mechanical experience considered

· Proficient in welding

· Marine industry experience preferred

· Ability to effectively troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve equipment breakdowns quickly

· Ability to make sound, effective business decisions during times of pressure or stress

· Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and CMMS programs

· Must be a self-starter, able to work with little or no supervision

· Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy while working with a variety of individuals and groups

· Ability to lift heavy items, climb stairs and enter confined spaces

Working Conditions

· Work is mostly performed onboard marine vessels, terminals and in a ship repair facility

· The worksite is subject to weather impacts and may result in a cold, hot or wet working environment

· Work may be required in confined and dirty spaces

· Use of chemicals may be required

· Periodic vessel maintenance will require working long hours and various times of the day

· Noise is considered above normal when working in engine room areas; hearing protection is supplied

Work Hours

This is a full-time role (minimum 40 hours/week) within our 24/7 continuous operation. Because our work is dynamic, you'll need the flexibility to support project adjustments, weekends, holidays, and occasional after-hours call-outs. In return, we support work-life balance and are open to discussing a compressed work schedule for the right candidate.

Compensation

This position is non-union and completes work in a unionized environment. You will receive a competitive salary, relocation assistance, full benefits including contributions to a pension plan and access to a company vehicle.
