Job Title: Associate Lawyer – Family Law

Job Type/Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday

Work Location: In-person – Whitby, Ontario (with potential for hybrid arrangement)

Salary: $75,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year (with potential bonus/commissions)

McDermott Family Law is seeking a highly motivated and results oriented Associate with 1-3 years of relevant experience to join our busy and growing practice. This position is well suited to a lawyer who has a genuine interest in family law, takes ownership of their work, and is capable of managing competing priorities and deadlines across multiple client matters. The successful candidate will be proactive, reliable, and professional in their interactions with clients, colleagues, counsel, and opposing parties.

Key Responsibilities:

· Manage family law matters from initial consultation through resolution, including litigation and negotiated settlements

· Develop and maintain strong client relationships while providing practical and strategic legal advice

· Advise clients on a range of family law issues, including separation, divorce, parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, and property division and equalization

· Draft and review various legal documents, including pleadings, financial statements, net family property statements, domestic contracts, separation agreements, settlements proposals, conference briefs, and other court materials

· Represent clients at case conferences, settlement conferences, motions, mediations, arbitrations, and other court-related proceedings, as appropriate

· Conduct settlement negotiations and participate in alternative dispute resolution





· Assist senior lawyers on complex and high-conflict matters

· Conduct legal research and analysis on a broad range of family law issues

Qualifications and Experience:

· 1-3 years of family law experience

· Juris Doctor (JD) or LL.B. degree from an accredited law school

· Member in positive standing with the Law Society of Ontario

· Demonstrated ability to manage family law files with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision

· Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and advocacy skills

· Strong knowledge of Ontario family law legislation, rules, regulations, and case law

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills

· Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and take ownership of assigned matters

· Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
