Backup / Casual Dog Walker

Kanata Dog Walking is a small family business that has been serving Kanata since 2014. We are looking for a reliable, experienced dog lover to join our team as a backup dog walker on an as-needed basis.

This position would be an especially good fit for someone who has considerable flexibility and availability during weekday business hours and is happy to work a variable number of hours from week to week. For example, you may be semi-retired, retired, self-employed, working part-time, or simply looking for a flexible way to spend some time outdoors with dogs. This is not a position with a guaranteed number of hours per week.

The ideal candidate is available Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM and is comfortable stepping in when our regular walkers are unavailable due to vacations, illness, appointments, or other circumstances.

Responsibilities

- Meet and communicate with clients
- Visit dogs of varying ages, breeds, sizes, and temperaments in their homes
- Walk dogs and maintain control while ensuring their safety
- Pick up dog waste and ensure proper disposal
- Clean up accidents and follow owners' instructions regarding training, routines, and care
- Observe dogs for signs of illness, injury, or other unusual behaviour and report any concerns to the owner and/or Kanata Dog Walking




- Take photos of our canine clients during visits and walks for use on the Kanata Dog Walking Facebook page (a Facebook account is not required)

Must-haves
- Experience and confidence handling dogs of varying sizes and temperaments
- Availability and flexibility during weekday business hours
- Willingness to work a variable number of hours on an as-needed basis
- Valid driver's licence, clean driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle
- Two qualified references and one personal reference
- Valid criminal record check, or willingness to obtain one
- Smartphone and proficiency using it for communication and scheduling
- Home address in or near Kanata
- Pet First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it
