BEHAVIOR STRATEGIST

Prairie Land Public School Division is seeking a Behavior Strategist to support students and school teams across our schools. This position works collaboratively with classroom teachers and Educational Assistants to provide practical, evidence-informed strategies that help students develop skills, increase independence, regulate emotions and behavior, and participate successfully in school.

The Behavior Strategist supports students with a diverse range of learning, behavioral, communication, social-emotional, and developmental needs, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, developmental differences, emotional or behavioral challenges, communication needs, and other complex learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

- Observe and assess student behavior and identify factors contributing to behavioral challenges.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior support plans.
- Provide programming and strategies for students with a range of learning and behavioral needs, including students with ASD.
- Develop proactive strategies to prevent challenging behavior and teach appropriate replacement skills.
- Support the development of communication, social, emotional regulation, transition, and independence skills.
- Work closely with classroom teachers and Educational Assistants to ensure consistent implementation of behavior strategies.
- Coach, model, and provide practical guidance to school staff.
- Collect and review behavioral data to monitor student progress and adjust programming.




- Participate in student support meetings and collaborate with families and other professionals as appropriate.
- Provide recommendations and support during challenging or escalating behavioral situations.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality.
- Travel between schools to provide consultation, programming, and support across elementary and secondary school settings.

Required Education
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Education or related post-secondary education.
- Related fields may include Psychology, Behavioral Science, Special Education, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or another relevant discipline.

Preferred Experience & Skills
- Experience working with elementary and secondary students in a school or educational setting.
- Experience supporting students with a range of learning and behavioral needs, including ASD, learning disabilities, developmental differences, emotional regulation challenges, and complex behavioral needs.
- Experience developing or implementing individualized behavior support plans.
- Knowledge or training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), positive behavior support, or other evidence-informed behavioral approaches.
- Experience with behavioral observation, data collection, and functional behavior assessment.




- Experience coaching or supporting Educational Assistants, teachers, or other school staff.
- Training in crisis prevention, de-escalation, or behavior management is an asset.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, as travel between schools is required.

They understand that behavior is communication and are committed to proactive, respectful approaches that focus on teaching skills, building independence, and supporting student success across a diverse range of learners.

This is a full-time position working division-wide out of Central Office in Hanna, Alberta to commence as soon as possible. The successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with students, teachers, and other staff members. You will be expected to present yourself as an organized and professional representative of the school division in all interactions, including in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence.

Previous experience working in a fast-paced, collaborative team setting would be considered an asset.
