Community Therapy Dogs Society (CTDS) serves Calgary and surrounding communities, helping improve well-being through positive interactions with therapy dogs. Our volunteer therapy dog and handler teams visit healthcare facilities, seniors' residences, schools and community organizations, bringing comfort, connection and support to people of all ages.

We are seeking engaged, passionate and committed individuals to join our Volunteer Board of Directors and help guide the continued growth and success of CTDS.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise or experience in the following areas:

· Community Engagement & Connections

· Government Relations

· Law / Legal

· Charitable / Non-profit Organizations

While these are current priority areas, we welcome applications from candidates who bring other relevant skills, experience or community connections. We value diverse perspectives and recognize that an effective Board benefits from a broad range of backgrounds and expertise.

Consideration will be given to candidates who contribute to a representative balance within the Society, including members’ areas of interest, fields of expertise, professional experience and geographical location. CTDS is committed to welcoming and valuing diversity among our members, volunteers, stakeholders, clients, facilities and broader community.

All applicants must reside within the CTDS service area (Calgary and the surrounding communities including Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane, High River, Langdon, Nanton, Okotoks, and Strathmore.

- Position Overview

Role Title: Director(s) at Large

Reports To:



President/Board Chair

Term Length: Two years, with the opportunity for renewal

Time Commitment: Approximately 5 to 10 hours per month

Meetings: Monthly virtual Board meetings, with approximately 2-3 in-person meetings annually

Directors are expected to actively participate in Board and committee work and contribute to the advancement of CTDS

Mission: CTDS adds value to people’s lives and enhances the well-being of our clients through positive interactions with our therapy dogs in the Calgary and surrounding communities.

Vision: CTDS envisions improved quality of life in our communities through dog therapy.

3. Responsibilities

· Provide strategic guidance and oversight.

· Ensure financial sustainability and fiduciary responsibility.

· Support fundraising and resource development.





· Advocate for the organization’s mission in the community.

· Participate actively in board meetings and committees.

4. Desired Qualifications

· Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

· Strong interpersonal and collaborative decision-making skills.

· A willingness to leverage professional and community networks on behalf of CTDS.

· Commitment to CTDS’s mission, vision and values.

· Ability and willingness to dedicate the required time to Board responsibilities.

· High ethical standards, integrity and sound judgment;

· Strategic thinking and the ability to distinguish governance from operations.

· Curiosity, adaptability and willingness to learn.

· An understanding of, or willingness to learn, good governance and the responsibilities of a Director.

· Previous Board experience is considered an asset but is not required.

5. Expectations

· Attend a minimum of 10 board meetings per year.

· Serve on at least one committee.

· Must attend at least one (1) CTDS event per year.

· Participate in strategic planning and organizational evaluation.
