Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our accounting team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing day-to-day bookkeeping activities, reconciling accounts, processing payroll and payments, preparing financial reports, and assisting with tax and other government-related filings.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and organize financial records using computerized accounting and bookkeeping systems.
- Record, classify, and process financial transactions while ensuring accounts are accurate and up to date.
- Prepare and post journal entries, maintain general ledgers, and perform regular account reconciliations.
- Prepare trial balances and assist with the preparation of financial statements and other accounting records.
- Process payroll calculations and prepare payroll cheques or payments while ensuring accurate payroll records.
- Prepare payments and cheques for utilities, taxes, suppliers, and other business expenses.
- Complete and submit required government remittances and forms, including tax, payroll, workers’ compensation, pension, and other applicable filings.
- Assist with the preparation of personal and other tax returns and provide bookkeeping support to clients as required.
- Maintain supporting documentation and ensure financial records are complete, organized,
and readily available for review.
- Prepare financial, accounting, statistical, and other reports for management and clients.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in accounts and financial records.
- Provide general bookkeeping and accounting assistance as required to support the day-to-day operations of the firm.
Qualifications
- Diploma, certificate, or relevant education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related field.
- Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, financial recordkeeping, and payroll procedures.
- Experience with computerized bookkeeping/accounting software.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Employment Terms
- Full-time, permanent position
- 30 - 35 hours per week
- $18 - $22.50 per hour
- Work location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
- Non-seasonal, long-term employment
- Regular daytime business hours
Pay: $18.00-$22.50 per hour
Expected hours: 30.0 – 35.0 per week
