Tri-City Transitions Society, a registered charity, founded in 1975, serves the Tri-City communities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. Our programs support women and children who want to escape the cycle of abuse and pursue peaceful lives by providing shelter, counselling and educational opportunities.

Our transition house provides temporary safe shelter and support for women and their dependent children who are victims of domestic violence or are at risk of experiencing abuse, threats and/or violence. We offer a safe, secure place to rest, rejuvenate and rebuild their lives.

Position: Child and Youth Transition House Worker

Shift Schedule: Permanent - part-time Saturdays, and Sundays 10 am to 5:30 pm, and Mondays 11:30 am to 7 pm.

Wage Rate: $26.49 to $30.36

Department: Transition House Program

Reports to: Program Manager or designate.

Position Summary:

Delivers supportive services to families residing at our Women's Transition House, offering parenting guidance to mothers, and implementing child lead activities to support children’s emotional well-being.

Job Responsibilities:

- Plans and implements child centered and age-appropriate programming that meet the needs of the children currently residing at the transition house. Communicate plans and related information to coworkers to ensure continuity.
- Models appropriate guidance skills when working with the children.
- Provides parenting strategies and applicable referrals to clients.
- Acts as a positive role model by fostering respectful, supportive, and non-violent interactions with children and youth.




- Provides emotional and practical support to children and their mothers; communicates any concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Maintains and organizes inventory of age-appropriate children’s equipment, toys, books, art supplies, and play materials.
- Plans and coordinates special celebration days and events for children, as appropriate.
- Acts as an advocate for children, providing direct support and, when appropriate, collaborating with mothers to access additional resources during their stay in the program and when integrated back into the community.
- Builds and maintains relationships with relevant community service providers to stay informed of available resources and strengthen community partnerships.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records, including client files, communication logs, duty book entries, and staff training documentation.
- Maintains working knowledge of systems and resources available to support women and children affected by violence.
- Upholds strict confidentiality regarding all clients, children, and staff; uses appropriate, respectful language and behavior at all times when interacting with families.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience:





- A certificate in Early Childhood Education, Child Counselling, Child & Youth, or related programs.
- Specialized training in domestic violence from a recognized program.
- 1 year experience working with women and children who have experienced abuse or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A current First Aid Certificate that includes first aid for children and Infant CPR.

Job Skills and Abilities:

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, especially with children and adults.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and within a team setting.

Additional Information:

- This position requires the ability to work in a stressful workplace, dealing with women and children in crisis situations, who have witnessed or experienced physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
- Criminal Record Check required.
