About the Role
We are searching for a people-centred working supervisor to lead our evening cleaning team. This role is responsible not only for a clean, safe, and secure building, but also for clear expectations, fair workloads, strong communication, staff development, and a positive, accountable shift culture. This is a nighttime position (Mondays to Fridays, 4:00 p.m. – 0:00 a.m., with a different schedule during the summer, with occasional flexibility for School events and operational needs.
Our evening cleaning team plays an essential role in the daily life of the School. Students and employees need classrooms, washrooms, offices, event spaces, and common areas that are consistently clean, safe, and ready for use. The supervisor gives the team the planning, support, feedback, and follow-through needed to deliver that standard reliably.
This is a working supervisory position. The supervisor's first responsibility is to organize, support, and hold the team accountable for the results of the shift. Meaningful time must be reserved for staff direction, inspections, coaching, planning, documentation, and follow-up, while the supervisor remains ready to contribute hands-on during absences, high-demand periods, events, and special projects.
The successful candidate will value respectful leadership, take pride in creating a welcoming and well-cared-for School environment, and support the mission and Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.
Primary Duties
- Plan the shift, lead brief team huddles, assign fair and practical workloads,
and adjust coverage as needs change.
- Set clear cleaning standards, inspect work regularly, recognize good performance, and ensure deficiencies are corrected.
- Train, coach, and support employees in cleaning procedures, equipment use, WHMIS, safe work practices, and service expectations.

- Improve routes, zone assignments, methods, equipment use, and workflows to strengthen quality and efficiency.
- Manage cleaning supplies and equipment, coordinate event support, report maintenance concerns, and oversee the secure closing of the building.
- Serve as the primary evening facilities contact for rental tenants by confirming access, providing practical building orientation, responding to routine facility needs, coordinating cleanup, and escalating safety, security, damage, maintenance, or booking concerns.
- Work closely with the Director of Facilities & IT on staffing, performance, safety, service priorities, and continuous improvement.
- Routine and detailed cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms, washrooms, offices, floors, fixtures, common areas, and other School spaces.
- Operation of manual and powered cleaning equipment, including floor-care and carpet-cleaning equipment.
- Safe response to spills, bodily fluids, waste, and other unusual cleaning conditions.
- Furniture moves, event setup and teardown, special projects, and coverage when staffing or building needs require it.
- End-of-shift building checks, lockup, and alarm procedures.

- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Reliability, sound judgment, initiative, discretion, and comfort working independently during evening hours.
- Basic comfort with email, shared documents, timekeeping, work orders, and simple tracking tools.
- WHMIS training, or the ability to complete required training promptly. Additional safety, first aid, custodial, or supervisory training is an asset.
