Detailed Overview
Under the general direction of the Cardiology Supervisor, the Cardiology Clerk schedules outpatient appointments and performs receptionist and clerical duties.
Responsibilities
- Schedules and books outpatient appointments for assigned area(s) utilizing computerized systems by receiving appointment requests, making follow-up appointments and adjusting arrangements in accordance with patient and facility requirements.
- Performs receptionist duties such as answering the telephone, taking and relaying messages and greeting visitors to the department.
- Contacts physicians and patients to advise when appointments have been arranged and other related changes; transmits test results to physician''s offices, other hospitals and nursing units as appropriate, according to established procedures.
- Completes patient registration documentation; updates test orders, distributes patient reports to physician boxes,
performs filing, photocopying and typing duties as assigned.
- As required, maintains payroll sheets for all staff; inputs hours into the payroll system; produces payroll sheets for review by the supervisor.
- Maintains inventory of office supplies and orders as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and ExperienceGrade 12, plus two (2) years recently related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to keyboard at 45 wpm
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Physical ability to performs the duties of the position
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
