About SingleTrack
SingleTrack is an operating company that builds and grows businesses across a diverse range of industries.
Our portfolio spans industrial chemicals and water treatment, building materials and furnishings, food manufacturing, and other emerging opportunities. While each business has its own customers, market and operating model, they share a common approach: identify opportunities, build strong businesses around them, and execute.
As our businesses continue to grow, we are looking for a Corporate Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function across SingleTrack, Harvest Moon Mills and AgroLife.
Position Overview:
This is not a narrowly defined accounting position.
We are looking for a hands-on finance professional who can own the numbers, strengthen our financial processes and provide leadership with timely, useful information to run the businesses.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will oversee the accounting and reporting functions across multiple operating companies, working closely with our internal accounting team and company leadership.
One day you may be reviewing monthly results and investigating a change in gross margin. The next, you could be updating a cash-flow forecast, preparing information for the bank, working through an inventory reconciliation or improving a financial process that has not kept pace with the growth of the business.
The right person is technically strong, organized and commercially minded. We need someone who isn’t afraid to dive into the details yet — most importantly —stands back and sees the big picture while taking ownership to get things done.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Own the monthly close and financial reporting process across multiple companies
- Prepare monthly financial statements
- Ensure balance-sheet accounts are reconciled, and financial information is complete and accurate
- Review accounting entries and transactions prepared by the team
- Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations
- Coordinate year-end financial statement preparation and work with external accountants
- Maintain appropriate accounting policies, processes and internal controls
- Oversee GST and other routine financial compliance requirements
Cash Flow & Working Capital
- Prepare and maintain short- and medium-term cash-flow forecasts
- Monitor cash requirements across the businesses
- Provide visibility into accounts receivable, accounts payable and inventory
- Work with leadership to manage working capital and identify emerging cash-flow requirements
- Support decisions around customer credit, payment terms and supplier commitments
Financial Analysis & Business Support
- Coordinate and lead the preparation of annual budgets
- Analyze actual performance against budget and prior periods
- Monitor gross margin and profitability across businesses, products, customers and projects where appropriate
- Identify trends, exceptions and areas requiring management attention
- Help business leaders understand the financial impact of operating decisions
- Support pricing, investment, capital expenditure and other commercial decisions
- Develop practical reporting and KPIs that help management run the businesses
Banking & External Reporting
- Prepare financial information and reporting packages for banks and other lenders
- Monitor financial covenants and borrowing requirements
- Support financing applications and lender information requests
- Assist with financial due diligence and other external reporting requirements
- Work with leadership on financing and capital planning as the businesses grow
Finance Operations
- Manage and leader to the accounting team
- Oversee all functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing and payroll processes
- Review payroll and related reporting
- Ensure accounting records and supporting documentation are organized and current
- Improve processes and systems as transaction volumes and business complexity increase
- Look for opportunities to automate routine accounting and reporting activities
- Establish practical controls without creating unnecessary bureaucracy
Candidate We’re Looking For Ideally, you have 5–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including experience taking ownership of the financial reporting process for a small or mid-sized business.
A CPA designation is strongly preferred.
Experience in an entrepreneurial, owner-managed, manufacturing, distribution, industrial or other product-based business would be particularly valuable.
You don't need to be an expert in our industries. You do need to be curious and comfortable learning how different businesses are profitable and what information management needs to make good decisions.
Qualifications:
- Strong financial accounting and reporting skills
- Experience preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements
- Strong understanding of balance-sheet reconciliations and financial controls
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management
- Exceptional Excel skills and comfort working with financial data
- Experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online or similar platforms
- Comfortable learning new skills, and in particular working with new software tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple companies, deadlines and priorities simultaneously
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial people
- A willingness to dig into the details when something doesn't make sense
What Will Make You Successful Here You're probably a strong fit if you're someone who:
- Takes ownership of the numbers rather than waiting to be asked for them
- Wants to understand the business behind the financial statements
- Notices when something doesn't make sense and keeps digging until you understand why
- Can move comfortably between detailed accounting work and higher-level financial analysis
- Doesn't need a highly structured environment and is well organized, even when things get messy
- Can get creative when building or improving processes that improve efficiency
- Understands that financial reporting needs to be accurate — but also timely and useful
- Is comfortable working directly with company leadership
- Can prioritize effectively when several businesses need attention at the same time
- Is comfortable receiving direct feedback and adjusting quickly
- Enjoys the variety and challenge of working across several growing businesses
- Takes projects from identification through to completion
What This Role Is Not This is not a role where the accounting work is handed to a large team and your primary responsibility is reviewing reports.
It is also not a traditional corporate Controller position supported by layers of accounting staff, established processes and highly structured systems.
This is a hands-on role.
We want someone who can review the financial statements, build the forecast, investigate the variance, improve the process, support the team and explain to leadership what the numbers are telling us.
As the businesses grow, the finance function will grow with them. The person in this role will have an important part in determining what that function looks like.
Why SingleTrack
You'll have the opportunity to work directly with company leadership and contribute across several growing businesses rather than being confined to one accounting function or industry.
The variety is significant — and that's intentional.
For someone who is entrepreneurial, curious and interested in building rather than simply maintaining a finance function, this is an opportunity to have a visible impact on both how the businesses operate today and how they grow in the future.
