Electrical Control Panel Builder – Instrumentation & Controls

Location: Stratford, Ontario

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Compensation: $19.00 – $30.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Schedule: Monday to Thursday, with occasional Fridays and overtime as required

Start Date: As soon as possible

About the Position

Selectra is looking for an Electrical Control Panel Builder to join our Instrumentation & Controls team in Stratford, Ontario.

We are open to candidates with all levels of experience, from individuals looking to begin a career in electrical controls to experienced panel builders, electrical technicians and controls professionals.

The successful candidate will assist with or independently complete the assembly, wiring, testing and preparation of electrical control panels used primarily in municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities and other industrial applications.

Previous control panel experience is an asset but is not required. Training will be provided based on the successful candidate's existing knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary based on experience and may include:

- Assemble and wire electrical control panels and enclosures.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts.
- Mount PLC hardware, HMIs, power supplies, relays, terminal blocks, circuit protection, disconnects and other control components.
- Install DIN rail, wire duct and other panel hardware.
- Cut, strip, label, route and terminate wiring.
- Complete point-to-point wiring and electrical terminations.
- Label wires, terminals, components and equipment accurately.
- Maintain clean, organized and professional panel wiring.
- Verify completed work against drawings and specifications.
- Assist with or perform panel testing, troubleshooting and quality-control checks.
- Identify and communicate drawing discrepancies or potential issues.
- Assist with modifications, repairs and upgrades to existing control panels.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Work collaboratively with Controls Technicians, Electricians, Programmers and Project staff.




- Follow company policies, procedures and applicable health and safety requirements.

Direct panel-building experience is not required for entry-level candidates. Relevant or transferable experience may include:

- Electrical or electrical apprenticeship work.
- Instrumentation and controls.
- Industrial electrical work.
- Electronics or electronic assembly.
- Automotive electrical, wiring or accessory installation.
- Industrial or manufacturing assembly.
- Machine building or maintenance.
- Mechanical assembly or equipment building.
- Robotics, automation or mechatronics.
- HVAC or building controls.
- Low-voltage wiring, security or alarm systems.
- Telecommunications or data cabling.
- Small engine, automotive or equipment repair.
- Construction or skilled trades involving tools, measurements and detailed assembly.
- High school, college, co-op or technical programs involving electrical, electronics, robotics, automotive, manufacturing, automation or skilled trades.
- Personal or hobby experience involving wiring, electronics, soldering, mechanical assembly or similar hands-on technical work.

Qualifications & Skills We're looking for candidates who demonstrate:

- Ability to follow drawings, specifications, instructions and established procedures.
- Good organization and problem-solving skills.

- Dependable attendance and willingness to learn and develop recent technical skills.

For more experienced candidates, the following are considered assets:
- Previous electrical control panel building experience.
- Ability to independently read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of electrical components and control circuits.
- PLC and HMI hardware experience.
- Industrial automation experience.
- Instrumentation experience, including 4–20 mA signals and field devices.
- Panel testing and troubleshooting experience.
- Electrical, instrumentation, automation, electronics or controls education.

A 309A electrical licence is not required for this position.
