The Engineering Technician, Metrology position at Tesla supports research and development by measuring components and subassemblies, using inspection equipment that are quite advanced. It’s based in Langley and in practice this role works closely with engineers, machinists and other technicians. This is a hands-on technical role where no two days are likely to be the same.
Team members use a bunch of different metrology tools, prepare inspection reports and also help maintain specialized equipment. Metrology is a technical position focused on measuring and inspecting components used in research and development projects.
- This is a full time role based in Langley British Columbia.
- The position supports engineering, manufacturing and quality related activities.
- Employees work with advanced metrology and inspection equipment.
- The role involves detailed measurement work, reporting and equipment support.
Responsibilities - Program and operate CMM equipment to inspect complex components with tight tolerances.
- Program and operate gear measurement equipment.
- Use optical measurement systems, profile projectors, height gauges and other inspection tools.
- Prepare inspection reports based on drawing requirements and critical characteristics.
- Coordinate calibration activities for measurement equipment.
- Help address equipment maintenance concerns and support improvements.
- Source additional metrology equipment when capability gaps are identified.
- Apply 5S practices to maintain an organized and efficient laboratory environment.
Requirements - Possess at least 5 years of work background programming and operating CMM equipment.
- Work background with both Calypso and MCOSMOS software is considered an asset.
- Can design inspection fixtures to support measurement activities.
- Can design hard gauges, which is considered an asset.
- Have work background measuring components with very tight metric tolerances, including micron level measurements.
