Lheidli T’enneh First Nation is deeply committed to the stewardship of our lands, waters, wildlife, and culturally important areas. We are seeking a reliable, motivated and dedicated Junior Environmental Monitor to help uphold this responsibility. As a Junior Environmental Monitor, you will help protect culturally significant areas and community interests while supporting responsible development within the traditional territories.

Key Responsibilities:

Environmental Monitoring

· Observe construction activities

· Identify environmental concerns or risks

· Monitor water crossings, wetlands, wildlife, and sensitive areas

· Report erosion, spills, sedimentation, and any disturbances

· Frequent long-distance travel within and outside Lheidli T’enneh Territory

· Engage in joint patrols and field visits with Conservation Officers, Mines Inspectors, and other relevant government agencies

Cultural & Land Stewardship

Support awareness and protection of

· Traditional use areas

· Hunting and gathering locations

· Medicine sites

· Trails

· Culturally significant areas

· Heritage resources

· Contribute to wildlife research initiatives

Reporting

· Record observations using forms, photos, GPS, or tablets

· Complete daily reports

· Escalate concerns appropriately

Safety & Professional Conduct

· Follow all safety requirements

· Participating in site meetings

· Work respectfully with project teams

· Represent community values professionally

· Participate in professional development and all training

· Submit written reports and updates to the manager/coordinator as required.

· Perform other related duties as directed/assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:





· Familiarity with Lheidli T’enneh territory, culture, and traditional knowledge.

· Ability to fly in a helicopter and use personal protective equipment (PPE) during fieldwork.

· Comfortable driving on Forest Service Roads and working in forest environments.

· Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

· Experience in the following is an asset o Traditional o Traditional land use o Forestry o GIS/GPS o Environmental work o Construction o Monitoring programs o First Aid o ATV/UTV operation o Hunting/fishing knowledge o Working with drones and radios is an asset

Requirements:

· Must be a Lheidli T’enneh First Nation member.

· Possess and maintain a valid BC Driver’s License and Driver’s Abstract.

· Must complete a minimum 12-panel drug and alcohol test and remain compliant throughout the term of employment for work on major project sites.

· Ability to successfully undergo and maintain a Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

· Must be willing to work outdoors

· Must be willing to take prescribed training The position does not compensate for overtime. However, compensatory time off for overage work hours can be taken with the permission of the supervisor. Preference will be given to qualified Lheidli T’enneh applicants
