Process Combustion Systems Inc. (PCSI), located in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking applications to fill a full-time position of Field Service Technician – Journeyman Instrumentation & Combustion (Industrial Fired Equipment). This is a travel-first field role: the majority of your working time is spent on client sites across western Canada, with some travel into the USA and internationally.
Field services include: burner performance testing/tuning, working with Burner Management and Combustion Control systems (PLC and Canned Logic based), and troubleshooting/servicing industrial burner control systems. Between trips, shop and office work includes; project documentation, PLC and HMI programming, Factory Acceptance Testing, and calibration and configuration of transmitters, control valves, and VFDs.
The Company
At PCSI, we engineer, construct, commission, and service custom combustion solutions for all industries. As a recognized industry leader, we deliver turnkey combustion systems, retrofits and advanced control systems for Industrial & Institutional fired equipment clients. PCSI maintains a full engineering contingent in Calgary which is also our centre for Sales, Manufacturing, Testing and Services.
Key Responsibilities for this position:
- On site commissioning of industrial fired equipment and surrounding instrumentation including VFDs, transmitters, control valves, standalone loop controllers;
- Interpreting electrical schematics, P&ID; and SAMA diagrams;

- Combustion performance testing and burner tuning based on portable gas analyzer data;
- Installation, calibration, configuration of industrial transmitters including temperature, pressure, level, flow, flue gas analyzers;
- Valid driver's licence, strong customer service and communication skills, and a flexible schedule with availability for overtime to meet project and startup schedules;

Appropriate Background and Experience for Candidates being considered:
- Red Seal or Alberta Journeyman status in Industrial Instrumentation with minimum 3 years' experience as a Journeyman.
- Previous industrial combustion equipment experience – heaters / boilers / process furnaces and other fired process equipment strongly preferred;
- Experience with loop tuning of PID Controllers and incorporating advanced control loop techniques.
- Familiarity with Canadian Gas Codes B149.3 and B149.1 – gas fitter or electrical ticket is also an asset;
- PLC application, implementation and programming experience – Rockwell, Modicon and others considered an asset;
- Burner management systems and combustion control system familiarity;
- Genuine interest in industrial combustion and a commitment to developing burner expertise, which we support with in-house training;

What you can expect from PCSI:
- Fired equipment training, competitive earnings and profit sharing;
- Strong support for personal skill development and industry growth, alongside a highly respected team;
- Varied,
hands-on work with the expectation of paid overtime during commissioning, startups and outages, balanced by shop and office time between trips.
A successful candidate This role crosses instrumentation, controls, electrical and mechanical work, and moves between client sites, shop and office. Candidates seeking a single-discipline or primarily desk-based role will not find this a good fit.
- Comfortable self-managing their schedule and workload on site - coordinating directly with clients, sequencing and delegating tasks, and keeping the job moving with minimal supervision;
- A self-starter who takes ownership of a scope from mobilization through to the final report;
- Hungry for knowledge, with a genuine appetite for new equipment, control platforms and combustion processes;
- Able to work from OEM manuals, vendor documentation and drawings to reach a solution independently;
- Solid computer skills, including a working knowledge of basic industrial networking and communication protocols;
- Methodical troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical and control systems;
- Well organized, with disciplined field note taking and accurate, timely reporting.
