Job Title: Controller – Finance

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead our Finance Department. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will hold primary accountability for corporate budgeting, financial reporting, treasury, audit compliance, taxation, and internal control frameworks. You will also directly manage, coach, and mentor our Accounting and Payroll teams to drive organizational finance goals.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Management

- Provide vision, guidance, and leadership to foster a high-performance, positive work culture.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, goal setting, work delegation, and performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Actively coach and mentor team members to support continuous development and retention.

Financial Management & Reporting

- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end consolidated financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
- Lead the annual corporate budgeting process, continuously monitoring performance against budget targets.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and monitor corporate loan balances.
- Maintain accurate, timely financial data and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Audit, Governance & Taxation

- Serve as the primary liaison to external auditors, the Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors.
- Coordinate all year-end audit materials, working papers, schedules, confirmations, and inventory counts to meet strict deadlines.
- Direct corporate tax planning and commodity tax reporting (including GST), ensuring alignment with legislative updates.

Strategic Operations & Internal Controls

- Design, implement, and evaluate internal controls to safeguard corporate assets.
- Participate in strategic, tactical,



and operational planning for the finance department.
- Advise on and support new system selections or implementations (ERP) from a financial control perspective.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Designation: Professional accounting designation preferred (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA).
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in a Controller role.
- Industry Experience: Background in industrial and/or commercial construction.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, cost control, Revenue Canada rulings, and financial legislation.
- Proficiency with automated financial/accounting reporting software (ERP systems) and MS Office Suite.
- Hands-on experience with short- and long-term forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
- Proven experience working within a multi-company or multi-divisional structure.
