Custom Metal Contracting is seeking an experienced, hands-on Floor Manager to lead daily production activities within our architectural panel and metal fabrication operations.

Reporting to the Production Manager, this person will direct a team of approximately 15–30 employees, execute the production schedule, and ensure work meets safety, quality, and delivery expectations. We’re looking for someone who stays actively involved on the floor, communicates clearly, and follows through to ensure work is completed correctly.

Key Responsibilities

- Assign daily work, communicate priorities, and ensure employees understand job requirements and deadlines.
- Monitor production progress, address bottlenecks, and promptly communicate delays, material shortages, equipment issues, or staffing needs to the Production Manager.
- Oversee architectural fabrication activities, including ACM panels, CNC routing, shearing, bending/folding, assembly, extrusions, and flashings.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, ensuring employees use the correct information and approved revisions.
- Verify dimensions, finishes, quantities, labelling, and order completeness before releasing work to shipping.
- Coordinate material flow, staging, protective packaging, crating, and shipping readiness.
- Train and support employees, monitor attendance and performance, and hold the team accountable for workmanship and productivity.
- Enforce safe work practices, proper equipment use, and shop housekeeping standards.
- Maintain accurate digital production records, including job progress, completed quantities, and downtime.
- Coordinate afternoon-shift handoffs, ensuring priorities, instructions, and outstanding issues are clearly communicated.
- Work with the Production Manager, Project Managers, Engineering/Drafting, Shipping, and Field Operations to resolve production questions and support project requirements.




- Identify opportunities to improve workflow, reduce waste, and prevent rework.

Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years of relevant metal fabrication or manufacturing experience, including demonstrated supervisory experience.
- Proven ability to lead approximately 15–30 employees in a production environment.
- Strong understanding of sheet-metal fabrication and CNC equipment; CNC routing experience is an asset.
- Experience with shears, press brakes, and folding equipment; RAS bending equipment experience is preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication and shop drawings.
- Experience with ACM, aluminum, steel, and architectural metal products is strongly preferred.
- Experience coordinating production, material handling, packaging, crating, and shipping.
- Familiarity with forklifts and safe material-handling practices; experience with trucks and trailers is an asset.
- Working knowledge of welding and fabricated metal assemblies is an asset.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Comfortable using computers and digital production tracking systems.

The Person We’re Looking For You lead by example, give clear direction, and follow up to make sure work gets done. You recognize production problems early, maintain high standards, and keep the team focused as priorities change. You take ownership of daily shop performance and keep the Production Manager informed so issues can be resolved before they affect delivery.

Schedule and Benefits

- Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional Saturdays required.
- Availability to stay until 4:30 p.m. when needed to support afternoon-shift coordination.

Expected hours: 40.0 – 48.0 per week
