GARDEN QUALITY & CLIENT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Tea Tree Gardens cares for some of the finest residential gardens on Vancouver's west side. Our crews keep those gardens healthy and tidy week after week. We are hiring the person who makes them better.
This is a new, year-round role that combines three things we care about: the quality of every garden we maintain, the extra colour and improvements that make a garden feel loved, and the relationship with the people who own it, in person and by email.
You will spend most of your week outside, walking client gardens on a set rotation, about four a day. You will see what a crew missed, what a bed is asking for, and what a client would say yes to if someone simply suggested it. Then you make those things happen: flag the fix to our Training Manager, propose and sell the seasonal planting or the small redesign, and send the client a short note so they know someone is paying attention to their garden.
You are not a crew lead and you are not a desk-bound account manager. You are the gardener the client trusts and the standard the crews work to.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
QUALITY
Walk a rotation of about 120 client gardens every six weeks and score them against our service standard.
Catch problems before clients do: pruning misses, weak beds, plant health, edging, cleanup.
Log findings in our field app and work with our Training Manager to fix root causes, not symptoms.
ENHANCEMENTS AND PLANT SALES
Spot and propose improvements: seasonal colour, perennials, shrub replacements, bed refreshes, container plantings, and small design upgrades.
Write simple, clear proposals with plant lists and pricing from our price book, and close them.
Coordinate plant sourcing, delivery, and installation with our crews.
Own an annual enhancements revenue target, with commission on everything you sell that we complete.
CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS
Be the named contact for most of our maintenance clients, in person and by email.
After each walk, send the client a three-line note: what you saw, what was done, what you recommend.
Own the email conversation with your clients from our shared inbox: answer garden and service questions within one business day, follow up on proposals, and acknowledge concerns the same day.
Handle questions and small concerns on your route before they become complaints.
Escalate what needs an owner, and keep the owners out of what does not.
HOW WE SET YOU UP A written scorecard with clear targets, agreed with you in your first week.
A 15-minute Monday check-in with the owner you report to, every week, by the numbers.
A price book so you can quote without waiting on anyone.
A laptop and hotspot so you can answer client emails from the field between walks, plus a shared inbox system with templates, so email takes about an hour a day, not the whole day.
Winter is planning, plant orders, and spring proposals, not layoff.
WHO YOU ARE A real gardener. You know plants for this climate, you can diagnose a struggling shrub, and you have opinions about what belongs in a west coast bed.
Comfortable selling. Not pushy, just confident enough to say, "This bed would look far better with X, I can put together a quote if you would like"
Organized. You keep a rotation, you follow up, and you close loops.
Direct crews and staff. You can tell a team their hedge line is off without making an enemy.
Self-directed.
Give you a standard, a client list, and a target, and you run with it.
REQUIREMENTS
5+ years in garden maintenance, fine gardening, or horticulture, some of it in a senior or lead role.
Strong plant knowledge for the Lower Mainland: identification, pruning timing, soil and drainage, common pests and diseases.
Experience proposing and selling garden work to residential clients, or a explicit track record of upselling on maintenance routes.
Clear, warm written English. You will write client emails, notes, and short proposals every day.
Valid BC Class 5 licence and a clean abstract. You will drive between properties daily.
Comfortable with a tablet and phone apps. Our scheduling, notes, and client history live in our own software.
Able to work outdoors in all seasons and assist in physical work on site.
