About the Role

Health and safety is central to how we build. We're looking for an experienced professional to own the health, safety, and environmental program for our Oakville manufacturing facility — protecting our people, keeping us compliant, and building a proactive safety culture as we scale production.

This is a hands-on, floor-present role with real ownership. You'll set the standard for how work gets done safely around high-power electrical and mechanical systems, and you'll measure whether it's working. On a small, growing team, you build the program rather than inherit a finished one.

Role Overview

You'll own EHS end to end — across manufacturing, assembly, test, and office areas — building the programs, habits, and reporting that keep people safe and the site compliant with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations. You'll grow the program with the company, from today's team to a scaled production operation, and hold it to the standard expected of a leading energy-equipment manufacturer.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program & Compliance

- Own and continuously improve the health, safety, and environmental program across manufacturing, assembly, test, and office areas, aligned to the Ontario OHSA and applicable regulations.




- Own high-risk programs: lockout/tagout, electrical safety, machine guarding, working at heights, contractor safety, and PPE.
- Run workplace inspections and internal audits, and close corrective actions on schedule.
- Manage SDS and chemical inventory, hazardous-material handling, and waste management.
- Maintain EHS documentation, records, and reporting in Microsoft 365.

Risk, Incidents & Performance
- Lead hazard identification and risk assessments (JHA/JSA) for new and existing processes and equipment.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and injuries to root cause, and drive corrective actions to closure.
- Track leading and lagging indicators, report EHS performance to leadership, and act on the trends.
- Manage WSIB claims and return-to-work.
- Track EHS actions, audits, and corrective actions on Kanban boards and internal systems.

Training, Culture & Emergency Preparedness

- Deliver onboarding and recurring EHS training, and maintain records and competency tracking.
- Build day-to-day safety habits — near-miss reporting, safety walks, toolbox talks — and lead and grow the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Own emergency preparedness, response plans, and drills.
- Partner with engineering and operations to design safety into products, processes, and plant layout from the start.

Qualifications Required

- 3+ years in a health & safety / EHS role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario OHSA and applicable provincial and federal regulations.




- A track record of improving safety performance — fewer incidents, stronger leading indicators, better audit and compliance results — that you can point to.
- Practical experience with core programs: lockout/tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, contractor safety, and incident investigation / root-cause analysis.
- The presence to be on the floor and influence behaviour without relying on authority.
- Strong documentation discipline; comfortable with Microsoft 365 and picking up custom internal tools.
- Robust self-management and the ability to work independently to timelines.

Preferred

- CRSP, CRST, or equivalent designation, or actively working toward one.
- Experience building or scaling an EHS program in a growing manufacturing operation.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 management systems.
- Experience with electrical-safety standards for high-power equipment (e.g., CSA Z462 / NFPA 70E).
- Environmental compliance experience (waste, emissions, permitting).
- Experience in a high-reliability manufacturing environment (energy, industrial, automotive, aerospace).
