Location: 7902 Birnam Line, Arkona, ON

Established in 1973, Birnam Excavating Ltd. is a privately owned, family run company engaged in the sewer, watermain, roadbuilding and general contracting industry. Our work involves upgrading key infrastructure under the ground in addition to providing quality surface works, as well as mechanical systems, process works, water and wastewater and general infrastructure projects.

In your role as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, your main goal is to service, diagnose, adjust, repair and overhaul equipment, vehicles and machines in order to maintain the highest level of quality and lowest level of downtime.

This is a full time permanent position. Our fleet consists of highway and off-highway diesel equipment and trucks, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and backhoes. We offer a full, competitive compensation package. You will be provided with a company service truck to drive to any job sites or calls.

Key Responsibilities:

· Perform basic maintenance on vehicles (i.e. oil changes, fluid changes, tire rotations, etc).

· Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues with heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders.

· Communicate with operators and drivers to determine equipment performance, history, trouble signs, etc.

· Use technology as appropriate to increase efficiency, enhance productivity and reduce downtime.

· Perform repairs and replacements of faulty parts using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.

· Ensure work is completed in a secure and efficient manner, on or ahead of schedule.





· Be safety conscious and aware of surroundings and conditions at all times.

Qualifications:

· Progressive experience of a least 3-5 years as a diesel mechanic working with on highway and off-highway diesel equipment and trucks.

· Ability to take responsibility for own work and identify opportunities for improvement.

· Excellent communication, inter-personal and organizational skills.

· Valid DZ driver’s license.

· Heavy Equipment Technician certification considered an asset.
