ABOUT DJN SERVICES LTD.
DJN Services Ltd. is a locally owned and established site-development contractor based in Springfield, Manitoba, specializing in excavation, grading and leveling, and selective demolition. We deliver residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal projects across the province, and we've built our reputation on accurate bids, tight cost control, and finishing jobs on budget.
We invest in our people and our equipment, and we hold every crew to the same standard: work safely, communicate clearly, and take pride in the finished product. When you join DJN, you join a tight-knit local team that does what it says it will do - and supports its people to grow.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Mechanic keeps DJN's fleet running - excavators, dozers, loaders, crushing and screening equipment, end-dump trucks and trailers, and support vehicles. The role is based out of our Springfield shop and covers scheduled preventive maintenance, diagnosis and repair, and breakdown calls out to job sites when a machine goes down.
A trade certificate is not required. We are looking for a mechanic with real hands-on experience who diagnoses well, works clean, keeps accurate service records, and understands that a machine down on a job site costs money every hour it sits.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on heavy equipment and trucks - oil and filter changes, fluid and grease service, and inspection of hydraulics, undercarriage, brakes, and tires.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and air-brake problems on excavators, dozers, loaders, crushing and screening equipment, end-dump trucks, and trailers.
- Respond to breakdown calls at job sites across the province - get the unit running on site where possible,
or arrange transport back to the shop.
- Carry out engine, transmission, differential, and final-drive repairs, and rebuild or replace components as required.
- Service and repair hydraulic systems, including cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, and fittings.
- Complete safety inspections and inspection paperwork for the truck and trailer fleet, and keep units road-legal and compliant.
- Perform basic welding and fabrication for repairs, guards, brackets, and wear plate.
- Maintain accurate service records for every unit - work orders, hours, parts used, and repairs completed.
- Order parts, track warranty work, and help manage shop inventory in coordination with the Operations Manager.
- Flag recurring failures and give the Operations Manager an honest read on repair-versus-replace for aging units.
- Keep the shop, service truck, and tools clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all DJN health and safety procedures, including hazard assessments, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Three or more years of hands-on experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, highway trucks, or comparable diesel-powered machinery.
- Solid diagnostic ability across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and air-brake systems - able to find the fault, not just replace parts.
- Comfortable working from service manuals and hydraulic and wiring schematics.
- Own set of hand tools.
- Valid Manitoba driver's licence, a clean driving record, and the ability to travel to job sites.
- Physically able to work in a shop and outdoor environment year-round, including lifting, climbing, and working in Manitoba weather.
- Dependable and able to work independently - a lot of this job runs on your own judgment.
- Clear communication and accurate record-keeping.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Considered an asset
- Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport apprenticeship at any level, or Red Seal certification.
- Class 1 or Class 3 licence with air brake endorsement.
- Manitoba vehicle safety inspection certification, or experience completing inspections.
- Welding and fabrication experience (MIG, stick).
- Experience with crushing and screening plants.
- Experience running a mobile service truck and handling field repairs.
- Familiarity with computerized diagnostic software for engines and equipment.
- Air conditioning / refrigerant handling certification.

- Comprehensive health perks: dental, extended health, vision, and life insurance.
