Home Sharing Provider — North and West Vancouver

Intellectual Disabilities (North & West Vancouver) Society (IDS) is seeking compassionate Home Sharing Providers in North Vancouver and West Vancouver who are interested in welcoming an adult with a developmental disability into their home.

Home Sharing is an arrangement in which an adult with a developmental disability lives in the home of a Home Sharing Provider and is supported as a valued member of that household.

It is not a placement in a facility and it is not a shift-based caregiving position. Home Sharing is a living arrangement built on compatibility, trust, relationship, and a shared commitment to creating a genuine sense of home.

We are seeking individuals, couples, and families who can offer a safe, stable, and welcoming home where an individual is respected as an adult, supported to make their own choices, and included in household and community life.

Who We Support

IDS supports adults with developmental disabilities who have a wide range of interests, routines, preferences, and support needs.

Some individuals are highly independent and may primarily need companionship, reminders, and occasional assistance. Others require more consistent day-to-day support with areas such as personal care, health, daily living, or community participation.

Each Home Sharing arrangement is matched individually. Where a potential match is identified, IDS will share relevant information about the individual's support needs, routines, interests, communication style, health needs, cultural or faith connections, pets, important relationships, and other factors so that both the individual and prospective provider can make an informed decision.

Experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred. Experience supporting individuals with mental health or emotional wellness needs is also an asset.

The Homes We Are Looking For

We are interested in hearing from households of all compositions — individuals, couples, and families — located in North Vancouver and West Vancouver.

Remaining on the North Shore can help individuals maintain connections with their existing community, health-care providers, family and friends, faith or cultural communities, employment, activities, and other important relationships.

We are looking for homes that can provide:

- a safe, stable, respectful, and welcoming household
- an appropriate private bedroom for the individual
- a household environment compatible with the individual's needs and preferences
- reliable and consistent support
- an interest in developing a reliable, long-term Home Sharing relationship
- an environment that supports independence, dignity, privacy, and choice
- a willingness to include the individual as a valued member of the household
- access to a vehicle, where transportation support may be part of the arrangement,

Depending on the individual, other matching considerations may include accessibility, pets, household composition, access to outdoor space, transportation, location, lifestyle, and other characteristics of the home. What the Arrangement May Involve

Home Sharing Providers provide individualized day-to-day support based on each individual's needs, preferences, and Person-Centred Plan.

Depending on the match, support may include:

- meal planning and preparation
- support with household routines and daily living
- personal care, where required
- medication support, where required
- coordinating and attending health-care appointments
- transportation and community access
- grocery shopping and personal errands
- support with personal finances as outlined in the individual's support plan
- recreation and meaningful community participation
- maintaining relationships with family, friends, and other important people
- supporting participation in faith, cultural, recreational, or community activities important to the individual
- emotional reassurance and support
- supporting personal goals and greater independence
- working collaboratively with IDS and the individual's wider support network
- maintaining required records and communicating with IDS
- arranging appropriate respite or relief coverage when required

Above all, Home Sharing is person-centred support. The individual is an adult whose preferences, relationships, privacy, dignity, rights, and choices must be respected.

Compensation

Home Sharing funding is based on the assessed support needs of the individual and the funding available for each arrangement.

Current monthly funding amounts range from:

$2,186.13–$5,856.13 per month The amount associated with a particular arrangement will be discussed before a potential match proceeds.

This funding supports the overall Home Sharing arrangement, including accommodation and agreed-upon supports. It is not an hourly wage or salary.

Home Sharing Providers are independent contractors and are not IDS employees. Providers are responsible for their own tax and reporting obligations.

Provider Requirements

Prospective providers must be willing and able to meet IDS and CLBC Home Sharing requirements, including:

- satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- current Emergency First Aid & CPR A certification
- a suitable home and successful Home Study
- satisfactory references
- relevant experience, skills, and demonstrated ability to meet the individual's support needs




- completion of IDS orientation and any training specific to the individual's needs
- appropriate insurance coverage
- valid BC driver's licence and satisfactory driver's abstract where transportation is provided
- appropriate vehicle insurance when using a personal vehicle to transport an individual

IDS provides ongoing coordination, support, and monitoring throughout the Home Sharing arrangement.

The Matching Process

Home Sharing is about compatibility, trust, and relationship, not simply meeting minimum qualifications.

Becoming an approved Home Sharing Provider does not automatically result in an immediate match. IDS works to identify potential matches based on the needs and preferences of individuals seeking Home Sharing and the characteristics of each provider and household.

Where a potential match is identified, applicants will have the opportunity to learn more about the individual's support needs, preferences, routines, interests, and what is important to them.

The individual is actively involved in deciding who they would like to live with.

Before any Home Sharing arrangement is approved, IDS completes the required screening and matching process, including interviews, reference checks, a Home Study, documentation review, and meetings between the prospective provider and individual.

Because matching depends on compatibility, the time between an initial conversation and a confirmed arrangement varies. IDS may contact an approved prospective provider regarding an immediate opportunity or a potential future match.
