THE ROLE Reporting to the Service manager, the HVAC Technician is a fully certified, skilled professional responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in homes, businesses, and industrial facilities. Additionally, the HVAC Technician will support day-to-day activities of the HVAC business.
Specific responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:
- Install a wide range of HVAC systems, including air conditioning units, heat pumps, ventilation systems, and more.
- Set up refrigerant lines, ductwork, electrical connections, and thermostats, ensuring compliance with Canadian building codes and safety regulations.
- Work with blueprints and technical specifications to ensure proper system installation in residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, including cleaning filters, checking refrigerant levels, inspecting ducts, and ensuring proper airflow.
- Troubleshoot HVAC systems to identify issues such as faulty compressors, leaks, or wiring problems, using diagnostic tools like pressure gauges, thermometers, and multimeters.
- Repair or replace faulty parts, including motors, belts, compressors, fans, and electrical components.
- Provide exceptional customer service, explaining repairs, installations, and system maintenance to homeowners or business owners.
- Diagnose and resolve complex system issues, such as inconsistent temperatures, poor air quality, or system inefficiencies.
- Adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations, including refrigerant handling and disposal
- Complete detailed service reports, including maintenance logs, parts replaced, and recommendations for future work.
- Ensure that all work complies with local building codes, environmental laws, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Mentor and guide apprentices in the field,
sharing expertise and ensuring they follow industry standards and safety protocols.
- Stay updated on new HVAC technologies, regulations, and best practices through continued professional development and training.
THE CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Completion of a recognized HVAC apprenticeship program and a Red Seal certification in HVAC.
- A Red Seal HVAC Technician with 3-5 years of experience in the field
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, including refrigeration cycles, air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and air distribution systems.
- Proficiency with HVAC tools, including diagnostic equipment like leak detectors, pressure gauges, and digital thermometers.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams.
- Expertise in troubleshooting and problem-solving, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve complex HVAC issues.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and coworkers.
- Meet physical requirements of the job.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and under the supervision of experienced professionals.
