Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a strong understanding and practical application of instrumentation and control engineering principles, theories, and industry standards.
- Provide Instrumentation & Controls (I&C;) engineering and design support to multidisciplinary project teams.
- Select and specify measurement and control instrumentation suitable for project requirements.
- Prepare instrument and control valve MRQs, conduct technical bid evaluations, and generate purchase requisitions.
- Review, comment on, and approve vendor documentation for instrument and mechanical equipment packages.
- Perform instrument sizing and calculations, including control valves, pressure relief valves, flow measurement devices (orifice plates, wedge meters, vortex meters), DP level applications, and other field instrumentation.
- Develop both basic and detailed I&C; engineering deliverables, including control narratives, Cause & Effect (C&E;) matrices, panel layouts, loop drawings, I/O lists, and P&IDs.;
- Collaborate effectively with DCS and PLC programming teams and provide technical support as required.
- Prepare construction work packages, including scopes of work and engineering drawings, and participate in interdisciplinary design reviews.
- Interface with clients during project meetings, HAZOP reviews, and ensure compliance with client standards and project requirements.
- Support system commissioning activities and participate in FATs and SATs when required.
- Ensure adherence to company procedures, engineering practices, quality standards, and applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of Instrumentation & Controls experience in SAGD projects, with working knowledge of well pads, CPF facilities, and OTSGs.
- Strong expertise in process instrumentation, including flow meters, control valves, analyzers, sample conditioning systems, and other measurement technologies, as well as variable speed drives/pumps and electrical design practices.
- Proven ability to independently evaluate instrument bid packages and technical vendor submissions.
- Capable of working independently and effectively coordinating with domestic and international vendors; occasional overtime may be required.
- Advanced knowledge of industrial control systems, with hands-on experience implementing and supporting Emerson DeltaV systems.
- Excellent organizational, communication, administrative, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication networks, devices, and protocols.
- Demonstrated experience executing projects through all phases, including DBM, EDS, detailed engineering, pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and system turnover.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities, with a proven track record of working successfully in team-oriented, fast-paced environments.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA.
