- Evaluate products, negotiate contracts and buy supplies in accordance to inventory requirements
- Prepare purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; substitute items as needed based on approval
- Purchase material for inventory and non-stock items for department and customer orders
- Monitor inventory levels and material requirements to ensure materials are available for production and customer orders
- Maintain accurate inventory records and investigate discrepancies between physical inventory and system quantities
- Conduct regular inventory counts and assist with cycle counts as required
- Identify material shortages, excess or slow-moving inventory and communicate issues to management
- Coordinate with Production and Receiving to ensure materials are available when needed and properly recorded
- Assess the quality, reliability and pricing of suppliers, according to protocols
- Receive, enter and review purchase orders from customers; verifying items received versus ordered and resolve any shipment errors with suppliers
- Communicate with customers through different communication channels (fax, EDI, email, etc.)
- Maintain relationships with vendors to ensure the supplier stays within the terms of the contract
- Resolve errors and discrepancies on purchase orders, as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in sheet metal purchasing
- Minimum 2 years of experience in inventory control or material planning within a manufacturing environment
- Diploma/Degree from accredited educational institution and/or Post-Secondary courses in Purchasing preferred
- Must have a combination of training and work experience including minimum of 3 years as a Buyer
- Manufacturing experience of high-volume production required. Lean manufacturing experience/education preferred
- Must be knowledgeable in metal fabrication, painting and plating of tube and sheet metal
- Excellent negotiating and adaptability skills
- Practical experience working in ERP or other business planning system an asset
- Strong understanding of inventory control and material requirements
- Demonstrated skills in spend analysis to create strategic sourcing plans
- Proven ability to manage projects efficiently and complete them on time and on budget

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $50,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
