We are currently looking for an experienced, decisive, and results-driven Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our growing team in Red Deer, specializing in heavy truck and trailer repairs. For the right candidate who demonstrates strong leadership, organization, and communication skills, this role offers a clear path to step up into a Shop Lead position

THE ROLE:

Troubleshooting complex technical issues, and ensuring our high standards of quality and workmanship are consistently met. The ideal candidate is a ticketed Heavy-Duty Technician who knows heavy trucks, and trailers inside and out—including diesel engines, powertrains, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and air brakes. Hydrovac experience is a bonus

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Perform diagnoses, preventative maintenance, service, and complex repairs on heavy trucks & trailers to manufacturer and legislative standards.
- Interpret technical manuals, work orders, and write clear service reports.
- Oversee day-to-day shop efficiency, maintain clean and organized work areas, and ensure equipment safety standards.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and direction to apprentices and shop hands
- Perform physically demanding duties including heavy lifting, working underneath equipment, and working in cramped positions.




- Maintain a customer-focused approach and communicate professionally with clients and team members.

QUALIFICATIONS: CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSING:

- Journeyman Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (Journeyman certification).
- Licensed Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) Inspector.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean abstract (Class 1 or 3 commercial license is an asset)

EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience working on heavy-duty trucks and equipment.

TECHNICAL & COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Strong diagnostic proficiency in diesel engines, powertrains, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and air brakes.
- Proficient computer skills (experience with shop management software, diagnostic equipment, and basic office applications).

COMUNICATION & LEADERSHIP:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly direct technicians, collaborate with management, and converse with customers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & APTITUDE:
- Good vision, hearing, and physical stamina required to inspect equipment, perform diagnostics, maneuver around heavy machinery, and thrive in a fast-paced shop environment.

ASSETS:

- Fabrication & Welding Skills
- Class 1 or 3 Commercial license

Shift: Monday to Friday with occasional weekends. Overtime available.

Job Types: Full time

Pay: $50.00 - $55.00 per hour depending on experience
