About the Role

We are looking for a smart, practical and energetic Junior Mechanical Technician to support the assembly, testing and improvement of automated scientific instruments and consumable cartridges.

This is a highly hands-on position. You will build prototypes, assemble mechanical systems, conduct repeatable tests, troubleshoot problems and help engineers turn new designs into reliable products.

This is not a desk-only engineering role. The successful candidate must be comfortable using tools, assembling small components, cleaning parts, running repetitive tests and keeping the workshop organized.

The position is ideal for a recent mechanical engineering technology, electromechanical engineering technology or manufacturing technology graduate who wants significant practical experience and rapid career growth.

Responsibilities

- Assemble mechanical and electromechanical prototypes
- Build and test scientific instruments, fluidic systems and cartridge assemblies
- Install motors, pumps, valves, sensors, tubing, fittings and mechanical components
- Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers and gauges
- Conduct repeatability, reliability, leak, pressure and lifecycle testing
- Follow engineering drawings, assembly instructions and test procedures
- Record test conditions, observations, measurements, failures and results
- Photograph and document assemblies and experiments
- Identify mechanical problems and communicate findings clearly to engineers
- Disassemble, clean, inspect,



repair and reassemble prototype components
- Support design changes and rapid prototype iterations
- Prepare components for machining, fabrication, assembly and testing
- Assist with 3D printing and basic prototype fabrication
- Organize tools, fasteners, parts, fixtures and engineering inventory
- Support production assembly and quality-control activities when required
- Maintain clean and safe engineering, testing and workshop areas

Required Qualifications

- College diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology, electromechanical engineering technology, manufacturing technology or a related discipline
- Comfortable using hand tools and assembling mechanical components
- Able to read basic engineering drawings and follow written assembly instructions
- Experience using calipers or other dimensional measurement tools
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to document testing accurately and consistently
- Comfortable performing repetitive assembly and testing without losing accuracy
- Able to work independently after training and ask questions when uncertain
- Reliable, punctual and willing to help with routine technical and workshop work
- Comfortable receiving direct feedback and making corrections quickly

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience assembling prototypes, machines, robots or automated equipment
- Experience with pumps, valves, motors, sensors, tubing or fluidic systems
- Familiarity with SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or another CAD platform
- Experience with 3D printers,



laser cutters, CNC machines or machine-shop equipment
- Basic electrical wiring, soldering or electronics experience
- Previous co-op, internship, student-design-team or manufacturing experience
- Experience writing test reports or working under SOPs
- Familiarity with Excel, Google Sheets or electronic test records

Growth Opportunity

This position can grow into a Mechanical Engineering Technician, Test and Validation Technician, Manufacturing Engineering Technician, Senior Technician or Technical Operations Lead role.
