Parlee McLaws LLP is seeking an experienced Litigation Support Paralegal to join our team in our downtown Calgary office. Experience in civil litigation and insurance defence are assets.
The successful candidate is a self-starter who is highly organized with excellent attention to detail, and the ability to take files to the next level independently and in collaboration with lawyers.
Key requirements:
- A minimum of five years of experience in a litigation paralegal role
- Experience working with personal injury claims is an asset
- Collect & analyze documentation to determine privilege and relevance in preparation for drafting the Affidavits of Records
- Document management within an electronic database – importing documents into a database via load files or as evidence, preparing production sets, exporting production sets for exchange with opposing counsel, maintaining an up-to-date and organized database
- Experience with E-Discovery software such as Eclipse, Discovery Local, or similar software
- Reviewing transcripts for key content and collecting and maintaining responses to undertakings
- Retaining defence experts for the purpose of performing Independent Medical Examinations, Functional Capacity Evaluations, psychological assessments, economical assessments, etc.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Highly organized and pro-active approach to meeting deadlines while producing accurate quality work
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to adapt to a variety of working styles
- Strong client service and relationship building
Other requirements:
- Post-secondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant/Paralegal program (equivalent experience may be considered)
- Meet Firm and department expectations of billing practices and targets
- Adapt to changing priorities and effectiveness in a high-volume work setting
- Fluency in English- speaking, reading, and writing
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software (e.g. Net Docs, 3E, Excel, Adobe, or similar programs)
