Logistics Manager:

The Logistics Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate, and cost-effective movement of products and materials into and out of the organization by air, sea, and land. This role oversees day-to-day shipping and receiving activities, warehouse organization, import and export coordination, freight coordination, customs and brokerage requirements, government compliance, all transportation documentation and manifests, carrier relationships, and import/export compliance.

The Logistics Manager will also play a key role in sourcing cost-effective carriers and brokers. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced workplace.

This is considered a mid-level management position reporting into Operations Leadership.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Daily Shipping & Transportation:

- Manage the day-to-day tasks of the shipping and receiving team.
- Ensure all shipping documentation is complete, accurate, and retained appropriately.
- Act as the primary internal contact for customs brokers and freight providers.
- Arrange and manage shipments through:
- UPS and FedEx
- LTL Freight carriers
- Courier services
- Other transportation providers as required
- Prepare and/or review:
- Bills of Lading
- Packing slips
- Commercial invoices
- Certificates of origin
- Customs documentation
- Shipping labels
- Freight claims
- Export documentation
- Carrier paperwork
- Work with the team to ensure all documents are prepared and organized prior to the truck’s arrival.
- Track shipments and proactively address delays, damages, lost shipments, or other transportation issues.
- Maintain the integrity of the shipping and receiving schedules.

Customs, Brokerage, & Import/Export

- Manage the organization's day-to-day customs and brokerage requirements.
- Ensure products are properly classified and documented for import/export purposes, including annual filing and maintenance for CERS, CARM, USMCA, etc.
- Maintain accurate records relating to:




- HST/tariff codes
- Country of origin documentation
- Customs values
- Duties
- Taxes
- Brokerage fees
- Import/export documentation
- Review customs entries, broker invoices, and duty/tax charges for accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve customs discrepancies, delays, assessments, or documentation issues.
- Maintain appropriate records to support customs compliance and potential audits.
- Monitor changes to applicable customs, tariff, import/export, and transportation requirements and communicate relevant changes internally.
- Coordinate with customs brokers and internal stakeholders regarding new products, suppliers, countries, or shipping requirements.
- Support the organization in maintaining appropriate importer/exporter registrations, permits, accounts, and customs-related profiles.

Warehouse Management & Organization

- Oversee the organization, cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of the shipping/warehouse area.
- Establish and maintain logical locations for finished goods, components, packaging materials, shipping supplies, and incoming materials.
- Manage inventory of shipping materials, and ensure that boxes, pallets, labels, packaging materials, and other consumables are properly stocked.

Other Duties:

- Work closely with Sales, Customer Service, and Production to ensure orders are ready and shipped according to customer commitments.
- Review upcoming shipments and identify both potential issues before they affect delivery timelines, as well as opportunities for potential freight savings from bundling orders.
- Support special projects and shipments such as Tradeshows, large customer shipments, and product launches.




- Working alongside Operations Leadership, develop and start tracking logistics metrics and more visible data for reporting.
- Follow all Heath, Safety, Quality and Company policies and procedures, including maintaining employee certifications.
- Continuous improvement activities to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.

Preferred:

- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field
- Professional designation in supply chain or logistics

Qualifications:

- Five (5) or more years of directly related experience, preferably on a global scale
- Previous experience in directing and overseeing shipping/receiving staff
- Understanding of Customs regulations and procedures including Tariffs, HS Codes, and CUSMA (USMCA) rules and regulations.
- Negotiation experience pertaining to rates with domestic and international carriers
- An understanding of dangerous goods and WHMIS
- Effective communications skills, written and verbal
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office®
- Self-starter; shows initiative; ability to conduct business in a professional manner
- One or more of the following; CPIM, CLTD, Value Analysis & Transportation of Dangerous Goods all considered an asset
- Experience preparing customs documentation and reviewing broker entries.
- Experience with inventory management systems or ERP platforms.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
